Hey Everyone,

This is my first post and hope you don't mind me asking for your help?

I am completing a Spa Manicure and Acrylic Nail course in May in the Beauty Academy in North Wales. I have always loved nails and have done my friends nails for weddings ect and I thought now's the time to get some formal training.

A friend has opened up a salon and has kindly said I can have a corner in the salon to practice and offer hand treatments when I have completed the course, all free for three months.

I am looking to buy a starter pack and Creative and Orly are the names that keep poppoing up?

So my questions are -!!

Where is the best place to buy Creative or any other brands starter Spa manicure kit? Which suppliers offer good value for money? And any hints and tips to get my weekend business started?

Thanks to everyone who posts, i've had some great tips from my reading so far.

Creative can be bought from Ellisons and Sweet Squared.

One point I would like to make - please do not do treatments for free as if you dont value your service then neither will the customer - you have products to pay for.

By all means offer "trainee" prices but not free. Try offering an incentive for the clients to book again - free hand lotion, oil, etc.

Good luck!

Hello, and welcome to the site
Fiona is right, dont offer the service for free. You have to charge, even if only to cover your products used. It sounds like a good deal...I am sure you will have lots of interest with you being a new tech. Why not do up some business cards to hand out, and have plently of price lists available for customers to take away with them xx

Welcome to the site, as has been said by the other geeks start as you mean to go as it can be really difficult to increase your prices and keep your clients after initial training, but most important of all make sure you have your insurance in order before working on anyone even if you are only training, www.beautyguild.com can offer competitively priced insurance for students. But I am sure Julie at the academy will go through this with you during your training. Good luck with your courses.

Brilliant, Thanks for your help on this. I'm really looking forward to it now. Julie from Thge Beauty Academy has spoken to me about insurance and can't wait to get stuck in as she sounds great

Thanks for the advice on the business cards i've done some and created a small flyer to start me off.

Wish me luck!!

P.S When I said free I didn't mean the treatments I meant the chair rent! Ha!
