Hi everyone:

I am a newly qualified Certified Nail Technician as of last week :) and would love to get some advice from you experienced geeks!.

I am having a few problems with lifting and wonder if you can offer any advice on the application of gel to stop it from getting onto the skin!

Thanks in advance for the help and tips.

Make sure you prep the nail correctly first, thats normally the cause of lifting. Stay a mm or so away from the skin when applying the gel and as you have only just qualified im guessing you arent very fast yet so 'freeze' every nail (put it in the lamp for 10-15 secs) as soon as you've done it, this will make it keep its shape and stop it bleeding into the cuticle until you cure it for the full time. Hope that helps you out :)

Put less on your brush when applying to zone 3 (cuticle area) or if using a one bead method place the bead of gel in zone 2 (middle of nail area) and then gently drag a little of the gel from that bead to zone 3....never put a loaded brush in zone 3...apply to zone 2 and drag what you need into zone 3.

My gel application in zone 3 is a mere cat lick...there is no need to have alot of gel there...no strength is needed in this area and if its applied too thickly in this area it can 1) look thick and noticeable as it grow out and 2) can cause lifting.

Zone 3 really should be very thin and blended into the nail...so that it barely even looks like it is there.

Hi

I am a newly quaslified nail technician as well and i have the same problem as well, especially with coloured gel. Another geek gave me some advice of that when you have applied the gel to the nail just run around the edges and the cuticle with a hoof stick before freezing under the lamp for ten seconds then move onto the next nail. Once you have done all four fingers then put them all under the lamp for the recommended length of time. I have found that this has solve some of my problems :)

Thanks for all the wonderful feedback everyone. I will certainly try some of these suggestions
