Hello everyone :)

I hope you don't mind me asking but some advice from experienced nail technicians would help me on my way. I was involved in an accident a few years ago and I am limited now to certain jobs that I can do, basically I can't stand for long periods of time. I have considered floristry and after chatting to a few people I have decided its not for me and it would involve a lot of standing . I thought about opening a gift shop but after looking at a few shops I have now decided not to go down that road. So, I have racked my brains and thought about working from home. I have a spare room and parking available outside my house and thought about doing a course on Nails and then a course on Waxing. I have found a college called Fingertips in Newbridge just outside of Edinburgh who train on CND and they also offer other beauty courses. What is involved in setting up my own small business from home and how many different courses do you need to take to become a fully trained nail technician, will a course on CND be enough if I pass the course, will I then be able to get insurance, is it this straight forward:irked:. Sorry for the long draft  Any advice will be very much appreciated. Thank you.:)

Hi and welcome to the site

If you are unable to stand for long periods of time I would not recommend you do waxing I have a bad back and hate waxing I am in agony by the time I have done a leg wax.

You should consider spray tans and nails.
I train with Fingertips and am doing my Masters with them at the moment. Their training is excellent and you will have no problem with insurance and starting your career as a nail tech.

Once you have done your Foundation course there are other courses you can do spa Mani/Pedi, minx, popits and many others.
One of the most important things you need to do is loads of practice really the more you can do the better.

For me my training never ends this industry changes or adds new things all the time and the successfully nail tech will be the one continuously updating her skills.
Good luck

Hiya

Firstly welcome to the site. I'm new too and have had great advice. The ladies (and guys) here will make you feel really welcome.

I would highly recommend the Fingertips Centre. I have just done a manicure and pedicure course with them and their training, ethos and general knowledge is second to none. CND is a bit like the Gucci of the nail world and these guys really know their stuff. They make you feel so welcome and give you confidence in yourself. They are fab!!!

Please don't be taken in (like me) by some of the courses that are advertised on the internet as some training centres are a bit of a rip off.

Good luck in your new ventre.

Well I can't realy add much to what others have said....you have found the best place! I'm just back from the "minx" training at Fingertips and was also on the Spa manicure & Pedicure last week with KaoryBaby, and would agree wholeheartedly with what she has said.

Give them a ring, they'll be more than happy to have a chat with you about your options.

Thank you guys.

I phoned up today and they only have one place left in October for there Nail course. I am going to drive out tomorrow and speak to someone once I drop the kids off at school.

Hi Suzanne

It was lovely to meet you this morning you were very helpful.

Once I do my banking this afternoon, I will hopefully be able to book for November if there is a place left for me. Fingers Crossed.

Welcome to the site:hug:.

Not much to add apart from agreeing about not doing waxing.I do offer it but also have back problems and it can be very tiring. there are plenty of things you can do in this industry without straining your back and nails are the best:green:
