Ok, here's my riddle.

When doing an NNO, and the client has a less than perfect C-curve...
say for example, on the right side of the curve, it curves in/under more sharply and the left side is 'flatter'?
How do you correct this so that
A) when looking down the barrel of the nail, it doesn't look thicker at the free edge on one side
B) when looking down at the nail plate, the shape is even on both sides?

I hope I've explained well what I mean.

This has been frustrating me for quite some time.
I have a few fingers here and there (meaning, the odd client with the odd finger) that do this... and they drive me BONKERS!!!

NOTE: I do NOT do L&P yet, so I can't pinch the c-curve to attempt a correction that way. I do UV Gel. And it's for NNO's, NOT for sculpts of a new nail.

Thanks in advance!

Hi V, I may be way off here, but if it was me doing an NNO on a nail that was like that then I would apply product accordingly, i.e. on the flatter side apply more etc and then the nail would look more uniform with the others iykwim.

Probably not much help, but I am interested to hear what others would do.

p.s. I haven't forgotten about the minx hun, just been a mad few weeks here with one thing and another.

Try pinching your c-curve (yes, you can do that with gels too).

yes i have seen gina pich the c curve using gels on her video at www.gelessentailz.com .its in the tutorials which you need a password for now so you need to fill out the form at the top of the page and they will send an email to you straight away with your password.xx

Thanks
BUT

The link didn't work:cry:

Surely if you were pinching your c-curves then you you make both sidewalls the same. Hmmm, defeat purpose!

In this case surely it is as a case of being different to be right?

Huh?

Now I'm confused
LOL:lol:

Still... if the client would be happier with an 'even' nail (and you too) then I would put it to her about having her natural nail length reduced and extending her finished length with a perfectly formed sculpted enhancement to make her 'c' curve perfect :wink2:

She's a reformed biter (got a few of those lol) and she absolutely refuses to let me lop it off to resculpt.
She doesn't care that it's imperfect. She's just proud that her nails are 'all hers' as she puts it.

I'm the one that's annoyed by it  and thought maybe I was doing something wrong and so that was why I couldn't 'fix' it?

Why?

You want it!

See it it in your mind, create the nail nail to conform to her and your wishes, and you can't go wrong, forget that pinching crappolla coz that';s what it is, do it with your brush

Are you seeing more than is there to see... if you know what I mean?

Is it your idea of a perfect nail that's clouding the issue or does the 'wonkyness' really stand out?

Ok i have been asked to clarify this, ok in my world I see a nail that needs enhancing I do it, when I see a problem in a nail I deal with it, quite simple.

I am always up for a challenge though.

I count on you all for clarity but will do my own thing and at the same time think outside the box ffs, surely it's simple?

Nope, one in particular is DEFINATELY wonky. I resculpted it at one point (it had broken), and it grew back.... wonky.. in the same way LOL Very weird haha

I am always up for a challenge though, but certainly not just through my peers!

Ok, but how! I've tried placing the gel every which way I can think of so that it looks great from both perspectives (down the barrel & down at the nailplate) and yet... I still can't get it right.

Either, I wind up with a look that is uneven looking down the barrel and thicker at the free edge on one side
or
I wind up with a funny top side:grr:

I don't know what it is that I'm doing wrong.

Maybe I'm not explaining myself right....... lemme think on it a bit.

lol thanks for all the responses so far.

Sometimes ,light pinching can help if nails grow lopsided. My middle nail on my right hand grows like that and I correct it by gently pinching my c-curve. I don't see how I am different, I was just suggesting something to my fellow Nail Tech. Only she can tell if I was right or wrong. I'll leave it to her.

Lana I am not mis-judging, if that even is a word! All I can see see here is a need to re-balance a nail to conform, seems simple to me, obviously I am missing something

I used to suck my thumb and it grows flat on 1 side and has a natural curve on the other. when it grows it stays like that flat side to middle then curve. it looks so weird from the barrel, looks like my finger is on a diagonal tilt downwards!
When applying gel I've tried to make a thicker nail on 1 side but sculpting (l&p) is the only thing that really works. I tried tapering the edges or almond shapes but all I can do is try and shape it off at cuticle - side walls to avoid lifting. I'm not alone, I have a few clients with 1 strange nail.

V I think you should leave it the way it is - your client is so happy and proud of herself that one wonky nail doesnt matter!

Thanks everyone!
I'm going to check out the pinching tut... knowledge is always useful.:green:

I suppose you're right in the 'leave it alone' because she's happy. But it drives me nuts lol
