Hi guys, i've just finished my level 3 and am dyinggg to go mobile! I know its going to be VERY hard work, which does not bother me but the only thing that does is everytime ive mentioned it to my tutor when she's asked me what my plans are, she's turned her nose up at me and told me how its a hugee waste of time and effort and that id be lucky to make a profit! :S Would just like some real pro's shed some light on this situation! x

Oh, and have you ever had of a mobile therapist with no car!! Other girl that was on my course with me reckons shes gone mobile but she doesn't drive! Never seen a therapist carting her wax pot and bed on buses!! lol hmmm..

Well, I'm mobile and I turn a profit. I only work part time as I have a 5 year old at home, so I work around her. It is very hard work building your business. However, I can't imagine lugging my stuff around on public transport or getting a taxi. That would eat waaaay too much into my profit margin. Don't worry about your tutor, do what you want, if you want to go mobile, go ahead. I think salons are great for experience and fabulous if you own it, but you'll get paid a pretty low wage I'd imagine.

I went for an interview at the Sanctuary in London once and the wages were so poor I didn't even go back to do the trade test!

Yeah you need the car, especially if you're planning on doing full time. If you are charging the right prices and providing good service, you won't have a problem making a profit. You're lecturer sounds very encouraging...NOT. If you feel confident, go for it. What have you got to lose?

I made a very good living out of being mobile for years before going back to a salon. I definately couldnt have done it without my car though.
Wishing you lots of success.

Hi

I went mobile couple of months ago and i dont drive, i get taxis to my appointments i use one taxi firm and i get a discount. Also include taxi fares in my costs, and I am no dearer than the salons in my town and i make a profit. I do have a minium charge though of £20 coz i wont go out for a eb wax or eb tint etc coz there cheaper than the average return taxi fare.

So there are therapists out there that dont drive.
