Hi everyone,

I'm studying to be an esthetician. Been on the salongeek for years as a nail tech, but lately have been checking out the skin geek as well.

Have noticed, most of the posts are about tanning and waxing. Are those just the services where questions most often come up?

Just seems weird no one has questions/comments about facial techniques, massage, extractions, etc.?

Anyone else noticed this?

There have been questions on all those subjects so the threads are there to find hun,
we are all very busy with tanning and waxing that is why there are so many Q`s on those two

That makes sense, with the summer and all.

I've started offering facial treatments to my nail clients. But so many see them as a frivilous luxury. Now these are ladies who have no problem justifying weekly manicures and monthly (or bi-weekly) pedicures.

It's like they only care if people can see the treatment immediately, as is the case with tanning and waxing.

How can I get people to view their skincare routine with the same urgency?

I'm not sure why questions on facials & massage don't come up as frequently; I've assumed part of it is down to the number of people who are only trained in nails, waxing & tanning as these are easily done as short courses?

Facials are one of my most popular treatments, which I expect is down to a combination of things - my love of facials & skincare, the products I use & the high standard of my treatments. When you've seen what a good facial using high quality products can achieve you have no problem enthusiastically & emphatically promoting them.

Oh, so in the UK you can do tanning and waxing without being a full esthetician? It makes sense.

In the US it's all or nothing. Anything to do with the skin you have to be trained as an esthetician.

Hi there,

I am qualified in facials, massage, nails, waxing and tanning and lots more besides, here in the UK. Fact is facials are often seen as a luxury and I think you are right, people do like to see an immediate result!

If I were being honest, I would admit that, I too, prefer the treatments where you can see a change in the client from when they arrive to when they leave!

Love

Sheila :)

I personally don't think facials are any more of a luxury than fake tan or a pedicure or manicure. We only get one skin!

As to clients seeing a change between arriving & leaving, a good facial using good skincare does give exactly that. My clients always comment on how their skin looks & feels, and when they come back they are always telling me how others have noticed how their skin has improved.

Out of all the treatments I do, facials and skincare are my passion, and with the right product behind you, you can inject that passion into your clients as well so they no longer see it as a luxury but a neccesity.

What skincare products do you use?

Btw, yes tanning and waxing do seem to 'take over' but if thats what the majority want to talk about then thats it! Personally I could talk skin all day! :green:

I work with 4 different skin care lines. Eminence, Dr. Hauschka, Naturopathica and Jurlique.

Eminence is by far my favorite line.

All of those lines, except for Naturopathica, are European. Have you heard of them?

The only one I have heard of is Dr. Hauschka but I don't really know anything about it. What is it like?

And why do you like Eminence over the others?

(And lets start posting some thought providing 'skin' questions!! :green:)

HI,
I have also noticed this. It would be great to hear more about facials and massages. I love waxing, however I also do quiet few electrical facials.
:)

I just see the best results with Eminence. They do so many great stimulating treatments, and I love how they incorporate massage into every step of the facial. They train us to do great neck and decollete techniques, and everything is so active!!

Hauschka is very homeopathic. Treating like for like. It's great if you have the patience. There are just so many concepts foreign to your average client. Normalizing day oil for oily skin, no night cream, no enzymes/glycolics., etc. It's tough to convince people. I love the emphasis Hauschka places on lymphatic drainage to detox the skin though!

I aggree that you can see very dramatic visible results thrrough lymphatic drainage massage....alot of companies today are using this technique.
