Hi all,

I finished my course for a nail technician in April 2008 and for all this time, from April until now I tried to find a job in beauty salon. Also I have a home salon. I posted my offer on a website. I made some leaflets and distributed them in my neighbourhood. I had some appointments but after few days later the woman cancelled on me .I feel horrible. For all this time I didn't even have one customer  and had no reply from any salon! I don't know what to do. I really love making nails but I don't have any one to make them to:cry:
I live far away from my family and friends so they can't recommend me for their friends.

Hi & welcome to the site :)

It would help if you fill in your profile so we know what training you have done, qualifications etc.

How many leaflets did you deliver ? Statistically I think there is only about a 2% response rate to leaflet drops so if you only delivered say 100 thats only 2 potential enquiries never mind bookings.

I have found the best advertising for me is newspaper adverts and good old word of mouth.

Also whatever advertising you do it needs to be on a regular basis every other month for example. Its very unlikely you will get much response if you do one leaflet drop or one little advert in the paper. Also try the free listings in yellow pages & thomson local.

It really is hard work promoting a new business from scratch, but its worth it in the end.

Wearing a set of nails on yourself will help. If your nails are good people will notice them and comment on them, its then up to you to convince them to come for a set which, in turn leads to recommendations.

Darling it is not easy to start out and have loads of clients, we all have been through it.

Try advertising on Gumtree its free and works for me, make sure you upload pictures of youe work as there will be many offers. Make a special offer like - 20% off first full set or a free small bottle of oil. Send out e-mails to big local companies offering their staff a 10% discount. Be creative)))) Keep your nose up)))

Finding the right job in the salon isnt easy, it took me about 4 months after college to get a permanent job, as no one beleived in me. But then I got a fabby job, got promoted in 3 months and after 2 years left and opened up my own salon.

Have a look at your CV again, this is very important part as this is a first impression you give the potential employer about yourself.

Hope this helps.:)

thank you all :) I have my offer on gumtree but I had no idea that I could put my offer for free on yellow pages and I never heared about thomson local so thank you very much for this information:) I hoped to find customers quickly and easily but you are right, I have to work harder to promote myself.

I'm a qualified acrylic and gel nails technician, but I prefer doing acrylic nails:)
