I am currently looking at training in Dermal Fillers but am struggling to find a reputable company to train with. I am trained in L2 & 3 Beauty Therapy and Microblading. Does anyone have any good/bad experiences with aesthetic training companies that they could share with me? I want to ensure the course is thorough and insurance will not be an issue.

Thanks, Heidi

I am a model for the advanced aesthetics academy and i think their training as brilliant! I have learnt so much just through being a model [emoji23]x

I'm going to Cosmetic Couture in Manchester in December, hope this helps :) xx

Can I ask, are you a beauty therapist or medical professional? I’m looking into training and I’m a beauty therapist x

Sorry only just seen your replies.. I was also looking at Cosmetic Couture but they put me off with pestering me loads to book! However, I haven't yet found another company so still may go with them. It's so hard because of everyone's views on beauty therapists doing it everywhere gets bad press.. Exactly why I want to find a good course so that I can be really good at it! xx

Bad press or not. I think it’s disgusting, a lot of Medical professionals don’t like that beauty therapists CAN legally train in these treatments because it’s competition for them. Remember years ago they could charge about £700 for these type of aesthetic treatments? Well now because there’s so much competition they can’t charge that much. That’s what they don’t like it. I’ve found a course where I’m training in jan and it’s all legal. Frowned upon or NOT!!! X

I totally agree! It's all about money, there's no reason why we shouldn't be allowed to learn aesthetics properly and legally without having to study nursing which the majority of the course content is irrelevant to aesthetics anyway! Which company ave you decided to train with?

It's not a competition thing, it's more the fact that if you cause a venous occlusion how would you rectify it? Or if you caused lumps you wouldn't be able to dissolve it, if your client needed antibiotics, antihistamines or steroids how would you give them?

People forget injecting is a medical procedure. I am a nurse and my University course covered a lot more a&p plus nurses have experience in injecting.

A VO is a serious issue and can cause necrosis, the filler needs to be dissolved as quick as possible. The hyalase is a POM and you can't send that person to a&e or their GP so what would you do?? If you do an injectables course, make sure this is covered.

My point is that I want to be taught these things & to be able to practice aesthetics properly and safely. This is why I am doing such research on courses. It should be possible to train in aesthetics safely to enable people other than nurses and doctors to practice without all of the judging. If it were possible to do a degree in aesthetics I would take that route, but i'm not prepared to study nursing for numerous years when a vast amount of the course content is not related.

I would have already guessed you were a nurse - you didn’t even need to say lol.
As you mentioned at the end of your reply, “if you do an injectables course, make sure this is covered” thanks for the advice we all already knew ? Obviously we would ensure this is covered lol.

Go beauty therapists!

A nursing degree is in NO WAY aesthetics. You are caring for patients. Bed baths etc etc. I am at university studying an Aesthetic practitioner course - laser treatments, chemical peels etc. And I’m already a beauty therapist anatomy and physiology trained. It’s not about just painting nails. We have more knowledge of the skin than nurses do. This is FACT (a doctor came and did a talk and told us that) ;)

Once finishing your adult nursing degree - you go on to do a separate course in injectables ... THE SAME COURSE BEAUTY THERAPISTS TAKE!!!!!!!!
Get over it!!

I think if people actually did their research into what beauty therapists learn before they were to comment it would be a different story!! Exactly that 'it is not just painting nails!'. I understand there are a lot of rogue companies that will train people within a day etc and it is those that are giving us a bad name but if on the correct courses you learn in depth A&P and a hell of a lot more about the face & skin etc than a nurse would.

Of course. I’m at UCB. (University college Birmingham) It’s a course called “aesthetic practitioner”. Have a look online. It’s a degree. x

I think you missed the point a little bit there, what she was saying is you as a beauty therapist can not treat someone if something goes wrong.
Whereas a doctor or nurse prescriber can, I’m not a nurse I’m a beauty therapist just saying...try not to be too defensive she’s just giving her opinion.
We do have more knowledge like you say than just painting nails etc. but medical we are not.
I’m not trying to offend you[emoji51] x

I’m in no way being defensive. Again it’s my opinion..... Thanks for the advice though lol ? I Definitely haven’t missed the point ..

Nurses don’t have an understanding of the skin (functioning of etc) as well as a beauty therapist/skin specialist would. Not trying to offend anyone. My opinion! X

We could literally go round in circles with this subject! X

That’s abit of a sweeping statement to say nurses don’t have an understanding of the skin like a beauty therapist.
Plus if everyone’s doing the same course surely you would have the same skin knowledge? You just won’t have the medical knowledge to back it up?
I know a few nurses that do injectables one is amazing and knows more about skin than any beauty therapist I’ve ever met. She does have a full on skin clinic tho.
One has no clue about skin but knows where to inject?[emoji15] pot luck I guess bit like beauty therapists some are good, some can’t perform a basic manicure.

Good luck in whatever you decide lol
