Hi,

Im not doing so well

Just started out as a nail tech- i know its not going to come easy but im finding it really hard and has really got to me today.

this is my 3rd week so i am really new to it and i dont expect to be great straight away but i get so concerned that people wont come back to me.

i have advertised at work and there are alot of potential customers but i dont know how to bring people in when i do not have the reputation that i belive leads you to a good tech.

only one person has booked in to come again to come to me, i had loads of interest last week and it really picked me up but this week... dead, i have just done the last client that i had booked and now feel a little like... hey what do i do now?!?!?

i am charging £10 a set and £5 for an infill with a vision to put it to £20 a set and £10 in fill from 1st dec. only i am wondering who i can sell this to if im having a job to shift £10 nails!

i have has a bit of lifting which was happening really quickly at first and now its after about a week but can i justfy charging any more than the basic? shouldi do £10 set til 09??

some sets i do and think yes ive got it and they just dont last.

i think everyone goes through this at first and i feel like just going back to ' Becky, life before nails' but i dont want to be a quitter and unusually for me i dont seem to be able to give it up.

i feel like i am going one step forwards and ten back! guess i just wanted some assurance that this isnt just me... or is it?

any help greatly needed and thank you in advance!

please save me from my sadness

thanks you

becki

I have been looking through all your posts to 'see where you are at' to try and give you some encouragement, but it seems that no matter how many people encourage you you are just very negative (sorry I have to tell you straight, that's me).

Sometimes a technician can do good work but her product choice lets her down ... have you ever considered that? You are new to nails and many might say, "don't go changing products now", and maybe a little more time and clients through your hands will solve your problems but if they keep happening then I think you should consider 'moving on up' in quality and effectiveness!

For your experience your price is not too low ... but some may distrust your ability because of that low price. Do you advertise that you are still practising? Sometimes that can make a difference if folks think they are getting a bargain if they act as models.

My biggest piece of advice to you is this ... get positive and put it out there that you want more peeps through your hands and they will come.

i think it is because i have little self confidence any way I suppose i am looking for reassurance that its not just me as many times i think it is.

I have dont some good nails and i go away prousof them and ot drives me to do better but when i look back on them i think maybe they wernt so good, wasnt sure if i am being hard on myself or if this is normal

i do appreciate your advice and take it all on board

Hun, i have three letters for u CND. Go and have a day there , if u read through my threads u will see u are not on your own. I am on cloud nine today and i am sure if u go there, your whole world will turn to a different way of thinking. Honestly hun do it because u will never look back, will i geeg? x

possible solution 1 - ensure a THOROUGH prep!!! That was always my setback when traning!!

failing that,

possible solution 2 - then im assuming product may be too close to the skin which will almost instantly cause you problems with lifting! I agree with geeg, potential clients may be wondering 'why' your offering enhancements for £10?

Try advertsing yourself as a graduate nail technican, this sound more professional and enticing to people, and at the same time your not giving the false impression that you have been doing it for years?

confidence will come with the more people you meet, and the more sets you do! things dont happen overnight, but they do eventually happen if you work at it! your probably as good as the salon down the street, but without believing you are then how can your clients?

ive made my move! and contacted CND about there lifting seminar! sorry to be all doom and gloom, think thats just me!

i will try to be positve now and thanks for your help

no worries! we all have our off days! but everyone at CND is extremly helpful and ready to teach you everything they know!!! plus having the CND training and product knowledge backing you will amazing for your business and confidence! i converted from essential nails yeeeears ago, best thing i have ever done! xx

'Poor me - poor you' mode never did anyone any good. See how you already feel better after doing some steps forward?

The thing is: what you think is = what you are = how your work is = what your clients are like. Ever heard of the law of attraction? Well... I'm not "religiously enlightened" by that stuff, and no "Secret" or "Infinite source" will make your nails so much better in a second, you have to make it happen for you - but - first you have to make it happen in your mind.

So if your whole being says and cries - I suck! Guess what - that will happen. Not because of some misterious universe movement, but because your hands will not listen to you, your work will be unsecure as your mind is.

When I started, I was totally unable to sculpt. I was running away from it like the devil from the holy water! Lucky thing was, I had a good product and clients who had no idea what sculpting was, so were just fine and satsfied with tips.

But if we want to be able to meet our clients needs, we have to improve! I learned that the hard way! So I said - damn those little papers, I'll learn how to sculpt even if that's the last thing I'll do in my life! So after a mountain pile of ripped forms and pots of ruined gel, I got it! But in all that time - I was CONVINCED I will do it. I was making a mess for 3 whole months, but I was living it, dreaming it, day and night, talking about it, watched and read endless tutorials, what other geeks said... and effort pays, it does!

So the key thing is to - be CONFIDENT and set your mind to it! And work, work, work... learn, learn, learn...

Your confidence will come in time it took me almost 2 years before I was confident that I could do any ladys nails that walked through the door! Don't be too hard on yourself you willget better the more you do. I've been doing nails 5 years and I know I can improve go to cnd if u haven't already. They have conversions and one 2 one training advanced classs master classes ! U can do anything but remember the best way to build up your business is word of mouth sounds silly but now it's getting to Xmas invest in some rhinestones add something extra it might get your nails noticed more? Good luck I'm sure it will get better. !
