I am still prepharing for my exam and am slowly trying to iron out all the mistakes in the hope of becoming a great nail tech. over the last few weeks i have concentrated on pushing down and sealing my product, liquid and powder ratio, and keeping the product away from the tissue( lifting has been a big problem ad these things have eased it to a minimal amount). i have also started to try and creat my nails with the brush instead of having to file so much away at the end!!! although this is all starting to come together i am now noticing the finish is awfull! so much so that it is ruining them. my clients dont seem bothered but it makes me want to cry when i have made all that effort to make them look nice!
It only notices when i start to buff , which makes me think im not working through the files properly?? i have a few new clients booked for full sets as models this week and would love to be able to improve the finish.

The nails have little scratches over them and also in places look like there is white lines running through them (like the ridges)along the nail bed. i use a 180 nsi file to finish then a purple sand turte finishing with a green sand turtle and then buff using a 3 way buff! what am i doing wrong or missing out?

This has turnt into an absesion almost to create a set of beautiful nails that im proud of, so thankyou for your help and helping me to achieve my goal:)

I use a gel uv top coat on top of my l n p , saves all the fuffyin around of buffing to a high shine!

i do have a uv top coat which i could use, but i would like to have a good finish without having to use the top coat. i would rather correct my mistakes now whilst i am still learning. i think the uv gives a great finish and love using it , but what happens when the customer doesnt want it and id have to send them away with tiny scratches over there nails.
Thankyou for your help though, realy appreciate it!:)

Hiya If you buff over with your white snow block that will remove any scratches, if you don't want to use a uv top coat then use your girlfriend buffer for a high shine. :)

Scratches - the only way I believe is to reduce you file grit, therefore if you are finishing with a 180g, then ensure you go all over with a 240grit, then again with a lesser grit ie 1200grit. Then make sure you have a dust free nail enhancement and then with buffer black, white (side wall to side wall buffing) grey (cuticle to extension edge buffing) also ensure your buffer is very clean. You may use a product like "scrubfresh" on a wipe and wipe gently over the grey side of the buffer to remove any oil residue from your fingers and the skin. NB - I always start my finishing with a 240grit abrasive and go finer from there.

White Lines - With out seeing these I am only guessing that maybe you have joining lines between the beads. If this is the case then make sure you are pressing and angling the back of the bead in zone 2 ie bevelling, therefore zone 3 bead will blend into zone 2. This is often important especially if you use an opaque powder

Hi yes as said your beads are probable drying to quick so as you start to do the next then you are getting the join line showing iykwim :)

OK and breathe :)

Right for now forget the topcoats etc., get you finishing off pat as you are trying to do. After product placement, you dont want to go in there with a grit that will remove all the work you have done.

So take a 240 grit and look at the nail, see what shape you want it to be and start to refine, get your sidewalls in place etc., then once you are happy with the shape work up your files, to do your enhancement refining to get rid of scratches. You will be fine

Just to add; the white lines could be because as others have said you are not getting the blend with your l&p that is an application issue

I totally agree with Fi. For the final finish I either use a CND buffing block, which leaves a beautiful finish, or I use Ezlow Miracle Shine with the Snow Monkey. xx
