I trained and passed with star nails a few years ago, left to practice on freinds and family. but never carried it on as it just got me down.
so now i ready to take the plunge again, but am now single and on benefits. so of i trotted down to my local college to day got booked in to do the nail technician course, i was asked if i had a manicure certificate said yes and who with . yes thats fine was her reply.
get home my enrollment forms are all wrong so i ring up 3 people later get tolled that i can not do this course as my certificate with star nails is not a recognised qualification. so i basically wasted £600.00 for nothing. i am not impressed.

What college were you going to? I'm sure when I was at college, they taught the Beauty Therapy Level 3 students with Star nails products......
Was the Star nail qualification for nail enhancements and manicures? Maybe you need a NVQ in manicures to do their nail enhancements course.
Could you perhaps go on a refreshers course with Star nails to get used to working woth their products again?

aww hun what a nightmare, having been in this situation myself with a course not being recognised, i sympathise with you hun, and obviously being short on money dosent help, cos you cant just go take another course willy nilly,

hope something sorts itself out hun, dont know what to suggest, but maybe another geek will think of some advice

if you are on benefits hun dont they help towards the cost of the course? i was under the impression you would be able to apply for some sort of grant or something ? xxx

I sympathise completely, its hard when you are trying to get back in to things, i have just enrolled on a one day a week course in beauty specialist techniques to cover more in manicure and pedicure, as i have only done creative courses. I have three kids and trying to run a mobile business , the things women have to do! Best of luck ,maybe speak with the tutor and explain your circumstances they might be a way to get around it if they think you really want to do it!:)

Poor thing!! I had same problem because I did home learn, wanted to do VTCT in nail tech but needed mani & pedi qualification first! I was gutted at the time but I am sooooo glad I did it now!
With regards to benefits, my colleague was in same position as you and she got the majority of the course paid and money towards books and travel expenses! You have to see the welfare type people in the college and show the proof you are claiming and fill in their forms!!

HTH

Hi Dianna

I am sorry to here you are having a little trouble with the college.

I know in the college that a teach in you can apply for a fee wavier I am sure this must apply to you college. I would give them a call in the morning and as student service if this is possible.

Hope you have some joy soon

I have just got onto level 3 nail services which is acrylic and gel, but I had to do a level 2 in beauty or nails before I could do this. The level 2 included manicure, pedicure, health and safety, reception duties, promoting a service, and nail art. I couldn't just start a level 3. in all it will be taking me 2 years to be fully qualified to start anything.
