First of all, I'm new here, so I'd better introduve myself....My name's Amy (you guessed?) and I'm based in a salon on the Wirral. I was the first person to start doing Nouveau Lashes on the Wirral, having trained October 2005.

I don't know if there's any other Lash Technicians out there, but I got a newsletter from Nouveau yesterday. First of all I was qute pleased thinking they'd finally got round to setting up the salon listing on their website, rather than just having the phone and email referrals, but then I realised I was going to have to pay £120 a year for the privilege!!

Did any one else get this correspondence?

Nouveau are not forcing their technicians to pay the £120, but if you don't pay it, you don't get a mention on their website. I emailed them suggesting that they offer all technicians a 'simple' listing (just name and number) free of charge, and those who wanted their own page within Nouveau's website including more info could pay the £120. But they weren't having any of it.

Does anyone else find this a bit off? I've paid good money to train with Nouveau, choosing them over a number of their competitors, and source all my lash products from them. In their email back to me they reminded me they do not make a lot of profit from my 'consumeables' (i.e the products they sell me), so I emailed back reminding them they made a pretty decent profit from my training! And I've sent a couple of people their way for lash training.

Sorry about the rant. What do you all think about this?

I think it's a cheek, £120 for what? They're just being greedy, certainly won't cost them that to set it up.

I totally agree with Sassy!
They may say they do not make much money from the products they sell to you but I would disagree....most companies make a decent profit on the product/service they offer, just think about how much it costs you to perform a treatment and how much you charge. I know you have to take into account your time and what you spent on training but you will still make a good enough profit each time you do a set of lashes....and they will know this!

I think thats terrible...maybe you should call there bluff and say 'if you want their technicians to continue to use their products then they should honour ALL technicians with a mention' Lets face it from what I gather there seems to be lots of competition in the lash extension distribution...

its like they have you by the balls because you will want/need to promote your business as much as possible.

Hopefully all noveau lashes technicians wont sign up for this then they will have to do some special offers on the web to get people to sign up.

they should provide a free basic listing to all of their technicians and then have paid for listings that include more detailed information.

they want people to do the training and use their products - the more techs they have using their products the more it raises the company profile. if they want to get the point where clients are asking for that brand of lash extensions then they should work with all their techs....it works both ways!

Thanks for the replies guys :)

I got a reply back from Nouveau saying they can't do simple web listings because of legal reasons - "We can't do web listings. If your info gets copied and you get spammed, junk mailed or even just annoyed on the phone, we're responsible so we just won't do it. We can't afford the law suits. Sorry." Ahem.

I've told them if I am to be treated in this way, then I will source my lash extension equipment from elsewhere, and they didn't seem that bothered, not fighting to keep my custom and loyalty or anything -
"Please let me know if you decide to purchase your supplies elsewhere and which type you purchase."

I also asked them how expensive this scheme really is, and in the first email they told me how they're going to plunge all the money back into marketing and advertising. In the second email they said this - "Type lash extensions or eyelash extensions in to Google (worldwide or UK) and see what comes to the top most of the time. This is the service we are offering and it's VERY cheap at £10.00 per month. The software alone to run it costs thousands, plus the man hours." Do they think we're stupid? So basically what they're saying is you the technicians are paying for Nouveau's advertising. We're going to spend all your £120s on bumping Nouveau to the top of the search engine list, so we get loads more technicians wanting to train, our profits zoom up and all you lash technicians have paid £120 for the privilege of having doubled the competition!

I DID, however, get somewhere when I mentioned that the email referral system would be redundant should the web scheme go ahead. Who would send an email enquiring as to where their nearest salon is when they can quickly and easily check the website, to which I got this reply -
"With reference to the second para. Point taken. I'll include a statement that says that the list is not exhaustive, please email if there is no salon close to you or something like that."

I am so immensely hacked off! I can imagine some technicians are gonna go into this blind, maybe not having much online knowledge, and be conned into paying it. Just realised my own multi-page website costs less a year than this!

Any budding lash technicians steer well clear I say!

What a load of cobblers. we know from Seanny how to get your website to work well in the search engines and it doesn't cost anything, just a bit of extra coding and that's it. They obviously don't seem worried about you as a customer, complacency is a bad thing.

wonder if someone from noveau lashes has read your post on here and been prepared already for your questions...I dont think the lash extensions companies sound a very nice bunch of people.

Iv seen one of the ladys who owns the company a few times & she doesnt seem very nice. she is not the friendlyist (SP) of people.

It seems to me that a company like this are cashing in on the current popularity of eyelash extensions and on the amount of money that can be made from it.....with such a specialised treatment (or any other for that matter) it takes a lot of hard work and effort to maintain a strong client base. They should support the people who chose to train with them and use their products.

WOW that is expensive! I didn't realize how lucky I was. I order from Lash Beauty who used to be Lash Envy. They emailed me to ask if I would like to be listed on their website for free. I have also received quite a few referrals from them. I guess there are people who call them to ask about eyelash extensions in my area, and Lash Beauty gives them my contact info. I have been quite pleased with it all. The only thing I would say is that you need to make sure that you allow more time for delivery if you order from them. Make sure you allow a week or so. Do not wait until the last minute to order because they are in Australia! But one time I did forget that I was running low on the Protective Coating and needed some quickly. I was able to pay a little extra for expedited delivery. it arrived on my doorstep in 3 days. www.lashbeauty.com

Thanks for the support! I hope this thread makes it onto google searches so others can see what Nouveau are like.

I emailed Nouveau (and received replies) before I posted on here, so they weren't ready for me! But they still did a damn good job at putting me off them for life!

The lady I trained with was a little snotty....they act as though they invented semi-perm cosmetics and lashes!

Jennykins....you're right, they're all about short term gain, not long term loyalty to their technicians

dreamgurl....you star! I've been looking at the lasy envy/beauty website for a while and have only been put off by the fact they're in Aus! It sounds like they're really good to deal with and they're definitely who I'll be ordering off in future. Did they say thay'd list you just for ordering off them? You haven't trained with them or anything like that?? FABULOUS if so!

And also, who is this Seanny and how do you get him/her to tell all about coding secrets? Boy does my website need a boost!

I am not sure about the requirements for them to list you, but I started off ordering the Starter kit, then ordered the Deluxe kit. Yes, it is a free service they provide. I think that they will list you as long as they know you are using their products. They've been very professional because I have been sent emails from people that have contacted them for places to get extensions in my area. So I have gotten quite a few new clients from them. The customer service is exceptional. Even though they are in Australia, all I do is send an email, and they always get back to me really quickly. They will even call me if I have specific questions. I was very impressed since they call me when it is convenient for ME. I am not usually free until after 4pm, and the lady from there actually called me at 4pm to answer my questions. I think it was almost 1am there in Australia. I felt so bad that it was so late, but she said that it was not a problem! Talk about service! So for those of you who don't mind having to wait around a week for delivery, I would definitely give them a try. They sell the Coatings/sealers at a really good price, but if you order more than 30 at a time, you get an even greater discount. I sell quite a few of them, so I usually order 75 at a time.

Oh excellent!

Talk about other end of the scale! 1am and no problem?? Nouveau offered me samples of coloured lashes and never delivered. They never called me back when they said they would.

Lash Beauty sounds like bliss

*toddles off in a cloud of happiness to place an order*

If you put Nouveau Lashes into Google - a post on here comes up 3rd LOL.

And it cost nothing LOL.

He he how delightful!

I hope this actual thread makes it up there soon....

I think we could all help by typing lots of keywords!

lash beauty better than nouveau lashes

nouveau lashes extortionate

nouveau lashes rip-off

oh happy happy days

(have I done the keywording correctly? would seanny approve? :) )

Yes, 1am and she was super friendly and helpful. Then 1 week later, she called me again to follow up to make sure I did not encounter any more problems. I have been dealing with Lash Beauty for quite some time, I had no idea that some of the companies out there are so horrible. I think I may have been spoiled by the people from Lash Beauty! :) In my last order, I was given 30 Lash Beauty client care cards for free and a sample of the eye pads. The client cards are beautiful and look very professional. I think my clients are impressed when they receive them since they know that I am using reputable products. By the sounds of it, Nouveau Lashes sound like horrible people to deal with. I am sure that if they continue to treat their customers like this, they will not be in business for long. I personally, put a lot of importance on customer service. I am very loyal and if I feel that I am treated as a valued customer, I will stick with a company. The first time I ordered from Lash Envy/Beauty, I received an email to ask how I was enjoying the products and to see if I had any questions. I was kind of shocked! Honestly, it was the first time I had bought something online and received an email to followup on my purchase. The combination of great products and customer service has gained my loyalty with lash Beauty. I am sooooooo glad I never tried Nouveau. But I am glad that people have this forum to post their experiences so that others can gather information so that they can decide what companies to choose. Let's continue to help each other out. :) I am still in shock that Nouveau Lashes is charging so much to list companies who use their products! I think it is a pathetic excuse that they say it's costs them thousands of dollars to maintain. What a load of crap. Afterall, they already had the website, they are just adding salon listings. They are just trying to rip off their customers instead of helping them run a sucessful business. I visited their site after I read your post and I didn't find many people listed. I guess most people are too intelligent to fall into their money making trap! I'm glad that you shared this information with all of us! You should find other forums to post on!!!!

I just checked out their site again and in the TRAINING section where it says "marketing material" they say this:

As a fully qualified Nouveau Lash technician you will automatically be featured on the “Find A Salon” section of our Nouveau Lash website. Our website is checked out by thousands of people – many of whom are looking for a professional in their area to apply lash extensions – so once your details have been registered with us, valuable sales leads will come your way.

How misleading, they forgot to mention that it costs 120 pounds!

Oh dreamgurl you're becoming more of a star every time you post on this thread!

I'm off to look at Nouveau's site, and then send them another email.

Does anyone know how to do a screen capture, just in case they receive my email then change the information?

btw....you're really selling Lash Beauty to me, I went for a look on friday and I'm going to place my order tomorrow. They sound so nice that perhaps if I mentioned you recommended them to me, you might get a discount on your next order or something?:)
