Does anyone know if NSI products are fair trade? Did call them, but girl said she wasn't sure and would ask someone to call back...so, thought I'd ask you clever lot!! They do not advertise that they are, so probably not..

So, that leads me to ask, does anyone know of any fair trade nail products?

I am afraid I don't

But this has got me thinking though, it will be great to see what replies you get

I got this on Wikipedia...

Fair trade is an organized social movement and market-based model of international trade which promotes the payment of a fair price as well as social and environmental standards in areas related to the production of a wide variety of goods. The movement focuses in particular on exports from developing countries to developed countries, most notably handicrafts, coffee, cocoa, sugar, tea, bananas, honey, cotton, wine, fresh fruit, and so on.

Fair trade's strategic intent is to deliberately work with marginalised producers and workers in order to help them move from a position of vulnerability to security and economic self-sufficiency. It also aims at empowering them to become stakeholders in their own organizations and actively play a wider role in the global arena to achieve greater equity in international trade.

Therefore I don't think Nail Products as such come under the Fair Trade remit, as most of the big companies manufacturing plants are in the U.S.A and it is most definitely a developed country.

Yes Izzi, I am sure you are right. Could have worked that out for myself really, If I had taken time to think about it! lol. I did know NSI products are manufactured in the US.

but..having said that, the reason I asked about other possible nail products, is because a local hairdresser had just introduced Aveda hair products, which are fair trade.

I don't really know much about other companies and am not sure where their products are manufactured? Is every product manufactured in the states?

Also, having looked at the ingredients of some 'fair trade' items, not all of them (ingredients) have to be fair trade, just a certain percentage to be classed as fair trade. Does that make sense?

Maybe with Aveda it is because of the ingredients....maybe the fruits or whatever used are grown by Fair Trade farmers??

Of course, that would make sense.

Oh well, never mind. Woun't be joining my towns bid to become the first fair trade town in the uk then!

Thanks for that x

you can still do things to enable your biz to limit its carbon footprint and to be ethically and ecologically forward thinking. in fact I think I'll start a thread about this!
