hey guys, had some bad news, and that is a nss bar is know about to open in the small town i work in. my town is alreaddy full of nail techs.
I have worked so hard with the work that i do and to build a clientel base up and recently had the chance to work in a nice salon just in the town center. next to the salon a shop has gone under and nss bar is about to open!!!
Im really busy sometimes i cant fit people in.
Alot of people come to me because the nearest nss place is 15plus miles away and they cant be botherd to drive!!!
well what do i do know??? obviously the new salon out of the window!

Have you had any experiences with loss of buissiness due to these nails bars? If so please can i hear ur stories xxx

Don't worry about it, concentrate on providing the best service you can. If you spend your time on them not you then you will lose clients!!

Trust me I opened my salon and 6 months later one turned up a couple of doors down, i dont think i slept for the next 6 months. People will try it out they always will, but the kind of clients you both attract will be different.
If your clients are getting a service they like from you then they have no reason to go there, don't do silly offers to get them to come to you because that will also attract the kind of clients that will only pay that anyway so you wont win.

Keep your chin up and you will get through it, I did and i'm still here and they are a hell of a lot less busy than they were now the butchered nails have started showing up, i just had to fix a lot of them! and i'm just fed up of hearing the usual discount salon horror stories. And one of my clients even got held hostage in their salon after going in there by mistake, i did laugh, at least you will never have to do that to gain new clients LMAO.

Good luck chick, and PM me if you ever need any moral support HTH xx

Firstly I would be a little more careful about using the term NSS. Im assuming that you mean that a 'discount nail salon' is opening near to you.
If it hasnt opened yet then there is no way to know whether it will be using NSS Practices or whether ot will be using ok practices just at a discounted price.

Secondly though, I wouldnt worry too much about it. Have enough confidence in the service you provide to know that if 100 salons opened down the street that you would still have clients. f you dont feel this confidence then use it as a guide. If 100 salons were to open down the street what could you do to keep clients coming back to you and you only.

Often when a new salon in town opens people may try it once to see what it is like as we are curious beings and like to know we are not missing out on something. When they go and see that there is nothing special or dazzling about the service offered they go back into their routine again, so you may find that a few clients miss a rebalance or two as they are trying out the other for that week.

Try not to be so negative. Instead of asking people for their stories of failing business due to discounted salons, why not ask for those who have overcome all kinds of competition to still be in the game. That would give you much more to go on into the future.

If you concentrate on giving a good and unique service then no type of salon will woo your clients away.

Really, dont panic. Clients don't come to me because I am the cheapest. There are cheap hairdressers everywhere.
Some clients are your regulars because you are good at what you do, some are regulars because they like YOU the person. Competition is not something to be scared of, or negative about.
If you have your hair done in a salon, think about and analyse why you go there, why you stick to the same person, and what would make you go elsewhere. If you love your hairdresser, know her, and laugh with her, a salon down the street a few quid cheaper wouldn't influence your choice now would it?
