Hi, Im interested to know if there are any geeks on here that have actually completed and gained an NVQ qualification in nails at The Carlton Institute ?

Please do not tell me to do a search as I know the place doesnt have a very good reputation and Im not looking to do a course there , Ive already been and recieved my diploma from there, and then applied for my NVQ2 after. I started to work through it and stumbled across a couple of problems with a couple of the assestments, they involved working in a salon ,which Ive never done ,so have left it for the time being.

Now Im at the stage where I want the NVQ qualification behind me .Im just unsure as wether to look into doing an evening course to gain it, or wether Id be stupid and should carry on with The Carlton ,and will I get a proper NVQ from them.

Anyone pretty please...

Debbie, you should be able to take all evidence that you have for your portfolio along to any other proper establishment that offers the NVQ and complete it elsewhere. Evidence is evidence so for goodness sake don't throw anything away.

Ok thanks for that Geeg, I didnt realise that.:)

There is a potential problem with going to evening classes. Very often, beauty tutors are required to teach nails, i.e it's part of their job, but they have no interest in doing so. I guess what I'm trying to say is that going to a local tec to do an NVQ, might be disappointing. You would probably (almost certainly) gain more knowledge from a tutor whose passion is nails.

Hi, just wanted to say I did some training with Carlton before Christmas and found them to be really good. I know they do get a bad press but judging from what people have told me and searching on this and other threads things have changed over the past couple of years and they are far, far better than they used to be. I haven't finished my NVQ yet but we were given lots of advice and support and I have to say that while I was down there quite a few people called in with their completed portfolios or posted them - so I would say that yes - people do complete the NVQ. It is awarded by VTCT and everything is above board and assessed correctly so I wouldn't have any worries about the qualification being 'worth it'. Hope this helps xx

Yes thankyou,I had a browze through my paperwork last night , I think Im going to call them ,just want to have a chat with them about a few things ,see how helpful they are then and hopefully carry on from there.x
