I'm trained with both Bio Sculpture and Creative in their systems and am now trading as a mobile nail tech.

I will be wanting to open my own salon in a few years time too and before that would be very interested in renting a room within a salon self employed.

What exactely will an NVQ teach me? Is it worth it?

This sounds really stupid but all the colleges near me run a very strict salon which includes flat ballet style shoes and SHORT nails with no product - I always wear high heels which isn't the problem but my nails are always long and have gel overlays, I don't understand why this is a problem?

At college you will be working on eachother so you will need to have natural nails to start with so someone else can practice on you.

Ah, I see now!

Do you use your own products that you are familiar with or do you use other product?

Colleges really vary in what they use.I was a model once for someone doing a vtct and a kit was supplied in the price of the course.it was not very good quality and many of the girls started to buy and use their own products.
The course covered all types of extensions and nail art.

I will contact my local college! I bet the NVQ course starts in September.

Are you looking at an nvq in all areas of beauty therapy or only nail services.

Just Nail Services, do they start at different times?

I have no idea.
So you are looking to run just a nail salon in the future.otherwise if you are already creative and bio trained you could do nvq 2 beauty therapy and learn waxing, facials, eyelash services etc. which maybe more worth your while.

I was looking at opening a just nails salon so it's totally specialist but I've got the beauty bug now ... off to check out Beauty Therapy courses!
