Hi all!
I'm new to this- in fact I just decided yesterday to become a nail technician and change my whole career route- because I want to do something I love.
After spending hours and hours of research I have decided to do the NVQ Level 2 with the Beauty Academy. But after reading through this forum I see that CND would be a great route too.
What would you advise me to do? I want to apply to work at a salon right after completing the course and have a qualification that is preferably accepted all over the world-
which route should I go?
Babsi:rolleyes:

Before you do either, why not phone a few salons and ask them, which qual they prefer and if they would hire someone who has just qualified.

Hi, like you I'm in london and was wondering this myself. I phoned around and the collages I spoke to said that NVQ2's mostly concentrate on the beauty side of things and only spend one or two days in all on nails. So if you are looking to only be a nail technician I would def go with CND.
However I would also do as Susie H says, if you wist to work in a salon. However if you are planing to go it alone I wouldn't bother.

Hi you all,
thanks for your messages.
If I do the NVQ Level 2 then the NVQ2 in Nail Services- so it will focus only on nails: standard Mani/pedi, Acrylic, Gels, fibreglass etc. etc.- so it covers an extensive range of what is required out there- I checked through the internet and many require NVQ 2 or 3 or an equivalent (but what is the equivalent?). I checked through the CNA Website and don't quite understand with which course you could work right away as there are so many Foundation courses. Either way, I think I will go first with the NVQ2 and then once I've got more money saved up do the CNA which seems to really be the best qualification out there-
If the CNA, which Foundation course should I take? Is there one that covers fairly everything you need to start at a salon?
Hugs

I take it you mean CND?
and the foundation corse depends on what you want to do, if you wanted to only do gel, if you only wanted to do acrylic. They also do a combination corse, the best thing is to give them a call and speak with someone who knows the ins and outs of the courses. The only thing is that they do not tech sculpting so if you wanted that you would have to pay around £50 extra.
the site you need is Welcome - Sweet Squared and the numbers on there, ketan is your nearest educator if your in london.
Would love to know what you decide on!

Hi,

I came across your post whilst searching for the best nail course to do. I'm in the exact same dilemma as you were!! I was thinking to do the NVQ2 home study route with beauty academy and then I came across the CND foundation. I don't know what to do, whether to do the NVQ first or just the CND. Also the beauty academy offers VTCT, and it's virtually the same cost as NVQ I don't understand what the difference is. Please help!!! What did you go decide to do in the end, and was it the right decision? How do you find the academy?
