I want to buy some hair henna. I have read that some henna is pure and some henna called compound henna has salts etc added to it.

I would like to purchase 100% pure henna. My hair is dark brown and I hope the henna will make it shiny and in better condition.

Hi, yes Henna can make the hair nice and shiny , but if you put it on too often a dull coating can form on the hair through build up ,

it is a green powder which is made from ground up leaves which turn a coppery shade when mixed with hot water it stains the hair a burnt coppery shade
it looks like cow pats on the head and it certainly has a smell of its own too lovely  lol x
then it is put on shampood towel dried hair whilst it is still warm
it used to be sold in tubs from hairdressing wholsalers when it made a bit of a comeback in the 80's
but people found that they couldn't have perms or colours with it as the coating of the henna made the hair far more resistant and they had to wait months before they could have any chemical services again
I found that sometimes with the henna putting a coating on the hair conditioning products could not get through
and it ended up looking a bit dry sometimes too

I think it's great for people who have allergys to any sort of hair colours
but it is limited on the hair colour bases that you can use it on,

the best base colours to use it on are on base fives and darker

I think the best place to try and get it would be a nature store or a health shop but do make sure its a reputable place and the henna is pure ,

we only ever used the pure henna powder with nothing added , we never used the black henna as there was some sort of danger involved in using it ,

Hi ,

Just a bit of advice before you try it, not trying to put you off but if in the future you decide you want a colour change for any reason its very hard to remove henna from the hair sometimes it can turn green because it can reacts with chemicals from hair dyes.
Be careful before you buy some like minky said you best bet would be A health shop i'm sure they will beable to help you more.

goodluck
