Hi everyone,

I'm seven months pregnant and I can't stand the smell of the acrylic. I'm a newbie and I want to continue to practice. But I'm not sure which odorless system to go with, I'm looking for odorless color acrylic too. Do you have any suggestions?

Hi
I'm using NSI Spa - odourless acrylic liquid, you can use it with all their attraction powders and their coloured acrylics too, they have a great range, check out their website.

odourless systems are very different in their use application and health & safety....
they really are a totally different system, and as such training for using them is the only safe thing to do...

They cure very differently, and the surface never fully cures, so must be removed, they are also much more likely to cause irriation and lead to allergy if used incorrectly. They also (much to many surprise) have vapour... you just can't smell it...

If it was as simple as removing the smell, every L&P would be odourless, even Doug Schoon still wracks his brain about how this could be done without the negative side effects....

I know many techs become very 'smell sensative' when pregnant, but this is often only for a short time...

I agree with Envy .. for the sake of only 2 months before your baby is due .. I'd stick with what you know. If you got through the first 7 months then you have very little time left to worry about the smell. PLUS you should be doing everything you can to minimize it anyway (quite easy to do actually).

Clients do not like changes (unless they are for the better) when they are getting on fine with what they are used to .. changing to an odour-less acrylic is not a change for the better in terms of either look or longevity.

Congratulations on your pregnancy and I with you all the best.

hey fellow geeks, i know this is an old post but extermely relevant for me at the moment.

Ive had quite a massive influx of pregnant woman in recently and moan about the smell of my l + p systems, my nail techs use different systems: nsi & cnd retention. Up until last week i have phased out both as the smell, was still too strong for them and for some strange reason menopausal women. Making them feel very sickly, quesy headache, stuffy and even having to walk out of my salon. i have massive extractors build in and the smell isnt as bad as they make out, but still relevant for me to think we should look after clients wellbeing as numero uno policy! With it being "recession" and a "baby bloom" im thinking of actually phasing out l +p and concentrating on brisa and fiberglass nails instead.

My query is are there any reputable brands of odourless l +p systems or should i just stick to tried and tested brisa?? (in my area my clients think l + p are the best coz nss have a huge hold). What cha guys reckon? thanks in advance xoxo

I would never get rid of L&P from my salon. Doing so would be tantamount to cutting my business throat!! :!:Instead we minimise odour with good working practises and the single most efficient way of doing that, is to teach your technicians never to wipe their brushes whilst working, on a dry paper towel or, other type of dry wiping pad. Doing so, spreads the odour horrendously.

Instead, dampen slightly, a gauze pad in ScrubFresh, put it to one side, and if the technicians have to wipe then they should do so only on the dampened pad which will draw the odour into the pad and not spread the molecules into the air.

Take all other normal precautions such as using metal pedal bins which should be emptied frequently during the day, and dappen dishes made of glass or metal which are always covered when not in use, and you will find your odour reduced by a Huge percentage immediately.

Extraction is primarily for dust removal and does very little to minimise odour in the salon; only good clean working habits will really reduce odour. HTH

I used NSI Spa, and it actually isnt fully odourless- which made my morning sickness worse!! Also I found it horrible to work with

Evaporation is even in the gel.
It must be vented to the outside. In any case, he flies out through the windows and doors.

I agree with what Gigi has said, but find myself struggling as well to reach this end.
Whilst looking about for a place downtown, most don't want L&P in their salon
In class, I was taught to dip into the monomer, pick up a bead, press on the towel to remove excess, then apply.
I knew that couldn't be right, and still struggle to this day to get the right ratio without 'pressing' to the towel.

I do use a metal bin with pedal. I empty it frequently.

As for closing the monomer dish when not in use, out of curiosity... does anyone close it between beads? Or do you just mean when you're done applying the L&P?

I had been thinking on the odourless myself, only because I want to facilitate finding a place in the city.
I've also tried 'stink out' which smells of apple. One drop to the monomer. Reduces the 'odour', but I know the vapours are still there so I REALLY need to get my ratio down without using a towel. :-(
(if only it were as easy as using a measurng spoon LMFAO)
