Someone i went to college with has just started doing beauty at the hairdresser's round the corner from me and charging £15 for nail extensions which is what i'm charging at the moment.

but i do it mobile, i'm quite worried as over the past 2days i've had atleast 5 people interested.

I know if i'm a better therapist and my nails are good they will probably be happy with my business but i'm just worried because this is a salon i'm guessing most people prefer to do have them done in a salon i would!

'interested' in you or her? Lost me there ;)

Personally I believe there is enough in this world to go round. You won't fail b/c she exists :) Plus I also think that some people may prefer to go to a salon while other people with love you coming to them.

I have a lady maybe 6 streets away from me doing what I do (and more!) and another lady 10mins walk away doing bio-gel. I still get business. It is easy to panic when competition first opens close by... but after a while you will see things will still be ok.

Don't be too worried by this competition. If you are doing a good job and I am sure you are), then you clients will stay with you.

There are a lot of ladies out there that actually don't like going to salons (I know a few), but like the "one to one" with therapist/nail tech, in either the comfort of their own home or at the therapists home.

There are always a lot of people wanting a mobile nail tech. as they are, for whatever reason, unable to get to a salon i.e. mums, the older ladies, people who are recovering from operations, diabled etc, etc, so I think that there is a great deal of room in the market for you, as you can offer a service at a convient time and place for them.

Good luck

Thank you :)
When i think of it i think we
apart from 2 other salons and her salon that's it in my area not aware of how many there is mobile.

Think i'm just panicking sure everything will be ok.

Thanks again x

It depends hun. Some people don't have time to go to a salon and if they do then don't want to be lugging the kids with them. So all you do is target those mothers who want mobile therapists, Start with introductory prices/offers to get them hooked.
I have the same problem too. There's a salon a stones throw away from me. I'm not going to waste my time and energy worrying about it. I would rather put it to something constructive like finding new ways to get clients.
Don't worry yourself over it hun, if people like you and your services they will come back. How about giving them a free bottle of solar oil or something? xxx

I was thinking of something like that actually was thinking more along the lines of a buffer but solar oil is a really good idea

Thank you xx

I think if you buy them in bulk from ellisons it works out a little cheaper. Also if you are going to do the solar oil offer make sure you state only free on first appointment. This way they think they have something for nothing and in the mean time they are trying a product they may not have even thought about buying. When it runs out they will buy more.
Good luck with it chick  xxx

I think you should use the competition to keep you on your toes and one step ahead of them. No harm in healthy competition at all. You can do it!:)

This is so true.
The majority see competition as a threat when it should be seen as something posative to keep the 'business brain' ticking.

I agree, nothing wrong with a bit of healthy competition!

You said that you'd prefer to go into a salon for treatment? Maybe you need to have a little more enthusiasm about being a mobile tech, you're offering something different to a salon.

I think you should also research how many mobile tech's there are in the area as you mentioned you weren't sure? They will be your bigger competition!

The solar oil is a great idea!

I definately agree with this

Find ways to use the situation to your advantage and get your thinking cap on

being mobile you have more flexibility with your working hours.

the salon im guessing at most is open mon-sat 9am-5/6pm??

if its anything like majority of salons we have down here, they all seem to shut on a sun and mon though!!

youve got the opportunity to work evenings-for those people who work daytimes, and even working a sunday...granted maybe you may not want to work these hours, but just an idea.

it may take a while and hard work with hours you may not like whilst your building up a client base, but it WILL pay off eventually.

Yep what anna said!! You can do evenings and weekends, you can also do nails in a house where there are kids as long as there is a babysitter present. Some women work realy long hours nowadays and would like someone to be flexible and work around them. You can do weekends and bank holidays!! Also as said above competition is normal and healthy and makes you want to be better and better at your job!!! Good luck!!!x

I do a mixture of salon based and mobile to suit my client's needs. Some people prefer for you to come to them. It's more convenient for them sometimes and some are just not comfortable in a salon environment. However, others like to "get out of the house" to have a treatment and visit a salon.

It's definately a mix and for me so far, a fairly even mix of the two.

Good luck
