My mum has recently adopted a little boy and we were talking about all the nursery rhymes she used to sing to me but we can hardly remember them now or at least we remember little pieces.

Do all you other geeks remember any in full... Please post

It would be nice for nostalgic reasons and also good for helping me sing to my new brother!

What was the full 'this old man he played...'

me neither...i just got this little pig all wrong...

This was my favourite!

Miss Molly Had a Dolly

Miss Molly had a dolly who was sick, sick sick, so she called for the doctor to come quick, quick, quick. The doctor came with his bag and his hat and he knocked on the door with a rat a tat tat. He looked at the dolly and shook his head. He said, "Miss Molly put her straight to bed". He wrote on a paper for a pill, pill, pill. "I'll be back in the morning with the bill, bill, bill".

nursery rhymes are cruel! drowning kitties, burning baby ladybirds.....they are all just wrong!

now i have found that these vary slightly from country to country, so keep that in mind but i googled it and found this:

This old man, he played one,
He played Nick Nack
On my drum!
Nick Nack Paddy Whack!
Give a dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played two,
He played Nick Nack
On my shoe!
Nick Nack Paddy Whack!
Give a dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played three,
He played Nick Nack
On my knee!
Nick Nack Paddy Whack!
Give a dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played four,
He played Nick Nack
On my door!
Nick Nack Paddy Whack!
Give a dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played five,
He played Nick Nack
On my tie!
Nick Nack Paddy Whack!
Give a dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played six,
He played Nick Nack
On my sticks!
Nick Nack Paddy Whack!
Give a dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played seven,
He played Nick Nack
On my heaven!
Nick Nack Paddy Whack!
Give a dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played eight,
He played Nick Nack
On my gate!
Nick Nack Paddy Whack!
Give a dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played nine,
He played Nick Nack
On my pine!
Nick Nack Paddy Whack!
Give a dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played ten,
He played Nick Nack
On my pen!
Nick Nack Paddy Whack!
Give a dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.

Mum...
I'm unhappy...
there's something in my nappy...
long and brown...
it's weighing me down...
like a chucky eggy....
slipping down my leggy....
it's in my shoe...
a lump of....

That was what my eldest two used to sing....

My favourite was Wind the Bobbin Up....I've sang it to them all....

Plus I love...

In a house...
In a wood...
A little old man at the window stood...
Saw a rabbit passing by...
Knocking at the door...
Help me Help me Help me he said....
Or the hunter will shoot me dead...
Come little rabbit come with me...
Happy as can be....Awwwwwwwww

( you have to do the actions with this though )

Not really traditional nursery rhymes though are they?

For those who don't know -
Wind the bobbin up was a nursery rhyme to teach little children to get the winding action of winding the thread round the bobbins used in the mills, so that the could be used to help their parents work when they were still very young!

alot of these bring back memories of when i had emily - her favourites were "insy winsy spider" she done the hand movements to "down"

and "wind my bobbin up" - i love them, especially when the little uns are trying so hard to get the hand movements too

Up above the stars so high,
Like a diamond in the sky

Twinkle, twinkle

How I wonder,
Where you are

Left right a peneth of tripe
I lost me wife on saturday night and where did you think I found her
In the lobby kissing the bobby with all the kids around her.

A rabbit has a button nose on this you can depend
because his little powder puff is down the other end.

The big ship sails on the ally-ally-oh
The ally-ally-oh, the ally-ally-oh
Oh, the big ship sails on the ally-ally-oh
On the last day of September.

Red sky at night,
Sailor's delight;
Red sky at morning,
Sailor's warning.

Some little mice
Sat in a barn to spin;
***** came by
And popped her head in;
"Shall I come in
And cut your threads off?"
"Oh, no, kind sir, you will snap our heads off!".
