I recently told my mum to stop being so silly when she showed me her smudged and tacky nail polish, I said just face it you didnt let them dry for long enough...

When she said they were painted 3 days ago I was gobsmacked, her nail polish had melted and become tacky when she wore gloves to rinse through some dishes in warm water.

A few days later I painted my own nails to go out and blow dryed my hair and my nails started getting stuck in my hair! the heat of the dryer had melted my polish too!

This worries me as my mum wasnt using very hot water and my hair dryer was on a low setting and a considerable distance from my nails.

Does this happen to anyone else, its not very practicle especially as it happened during everyday tasks.

This sounds odd tbh! And very irritating.

The only things I can think off are...

1. The application was too thick, as in, each coat applied was thick. This would take ages to dry. But not 3 days!

2. How old was the enamel? I have found that old enamels/polishes (not any particular brand) do have a tendency go thick.

3. If it's a new bottle I'd be tempted to return it to the supplier & ask for an exchange. Or contact OPI direct. (Lena White)

Sometimes, things can be faulty. I have had a brand new bottle of monomer, unopened and stored correctly be thick like jelly & returned it for a new bottle.
If all else fails, use a different brand, such as CND, they have a fab range of colours and are great value for money as they never go thick as they contain a special ingredient, that when agitated, loosens the enamel.

Hi

I am an OPI salon and have never come across this problem so I would assume that There is either a problem with your application or the actual bottle - as Bev said.

My mum has had her polish melted - 2 different brands but that was mid July in Cyprus - HOT!

I also use OPI in my salon and fortunately cannot say ive come across this this problem. I do however find that the alpine snow white can go thick due to its high pigment. Id definately contact the supplier and explain whats happened, see if they can shed some light or hopefully send you a new bottle. x

i also use OPI and never had this problem, as nicki-marie said, alpine snow sometimes thickens up (i also think it's because it's open for longest when perfecting french smiles!)

what base and top coat are you using? that might affect them x

i had this same problem with the brides bouquet (white) and linkin park after dark (dark purple) both seemed fine, nice thin application, but 2 or 3 days later took some gloves of and voila denty smudges in them, grrrrrrr

i swapped to CND polishes 3 months ago and am yet to have a problem

if its new bottle id take it back hun and ask supplier to look at it

I distribute OPI in my country and have NEVER heard of that from our clients.

always 2 layers, with a base coat that fit the natural nail, and a top coat...

may I ask which color it was? from which collection? for how long did you have it?

the only thing i can think of is that you maybe applied it a bit thick??? i use opi products all the time and have never had any problems x

It sounds like when you have put on the first coat ,after base coat that it is to thick ,or that you have not let it dry enough before you apply the next coat.hthxx

I've never had this problem either, apart from the white going thicker more quickly as others had said. Personally I love their polishes and have never used any so good!

Thanks for all your suggestions,

Unfortuntely I imported my polishes from America to avoid the £10 price tag here in Britain so I dont think it would be easy or economical to return them.

The polishes that were affected was alpine snow and fireflies but my base and top coat are not opi, just the edge which may have contributed to the melting effect.

It is quite possible the application was too thick and a few ppl have commented on the white polish being the worst culprit so that could explain it.

Other than that its just an inconvinience I suppose and I will have to experiement with a few things to see which works best. Il let you know if I find anything that works.

Thanks for all your comments guys x

In my view, this is why it is important to buy from authorised suppliers and salons. As you have the reassurance that what you get is fresh new stock. x

thank you!

other than that, for the Alpine Snow, always have 2 bottles, and when one gets thicker, use the other and put a drop of thinner in the first bottle. but leave the thinner "work" during the day...

or if you only want to buy one, put the drop of thinner the night before.
