I guess this post is mainly aimed at the Aussie nail geeks as I am unsure if these brands are available in other countries, however I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on these brands of Acrylic:

Perma Nail Acrylic Liquid and Powders - these are available in different series? I think from 1-6. I am unsure if these contain MMA or not??

ABS (American Beauty Supplies - americanbeauty.com.au):
1. ABS Acrylic Monomer (No MMA) (The cheaper Bubble Gum scented liquid contains MMA)
2. HP3000 Acrylic Powder (Pink / White / Clear) (Fast Setting) - I was told this is the best powder to use with the non MMA liquid as the two other types they have work best with a liquid containing MMA otherwise the mix ratio is extremely runny.

I only just found out that MMA is legal here in Australia!

Anyway, if anyone has used either of these two brands could you please let me know any pros/cons?
Thanks in advance
Michelle

Ive never used either, but if they have MMA monomers available that'd be sending out warning signals to me.

Firstly MMA is frowned upon and is in the very late stages of being banned, contact APFA - The Australian Association for Professional Nail Practitioners (i think it has been banned) but policing it is the hard part.

You sound like you are looking for a cheaper option to overseas brand names in Australia (actually ABS non MMA UV liquid is pretty reasonable), they have brilliant tips at astoundingly cheap prices also and are great for accessories. I prefer the Gold Label powders. Their marble handled brushes I have used for years and I would consider them the best value for money brushes anywhere.

They import their product (but blend a few of their own powders) and primarily supply the Asian salon market and are a very friendly bunch of guys. They are very honest about the MMA content in some of their liquids and do not shy away from giving MSDS for any of their products, unlike Diamondnails which deny their liquids contain MMA.
They have a brillaint imported polish range (Color Club), great range of colors and premium polish in 2 sizes.

They also stock many premium brand accesory lines (no lift, seche, out the door) without the ridiculous markup ..... and..... (just to cover my ever exposed behind, they also stock Creative & OPI) You can also place orders online and pay via direct deposit.

Perma nail are a major player in the Aus market, many other nail companies both here and overseas are supplied by Perma Nail and sell their products under different names. They are one of the only manufacturers as such in Aus. With Perma nail, the cheaper the price, the lesser the outcome (you can't expect too much at some of the ridiculously low prices). You also can't buy direct from Perma Nail.

They have a product called EzyFlow which is quite good (zebra striped bottles nonethless), it's been around for yonks now, well before Ezflow.

They are however as we speak developing a premium range (inside information) that will probably set the Australian nail industry on it's rear end (based on quality and price), it's about time ........ It will include a premium range of L&P, Gels, prep, tips, files, manicure, pedicure ...EVERYTHING.

Another brand to look at is Hawley, their premium range is Illume and is knocking many of the major players off their comfortable perches.

It really depends on what you expect from your product, just remember IF YOU PAY PEANUTS, YOU GET MONKIES ...... but not always. SOME of the cheaper players merely get legitimate (very close) chemical copies of major brand formulas. .....

I have tried just about every product on the market here in AUS and like the idea of using a product manufactured in my own country.

Well I am looking for a slightly cheaper option, but I do agree with your peanuts/monkey comment and I'm not willing just to save a few dollars if it means using poor quality products.

I've decided to put in an order with ABS to try out their system (will have a look at the Gold Label powder) so I'll have a look at their tips and brushes too. I've also heard some good things about Color Club so I'll have to check it out (although in the last 6 months I've purchased over 30 bottles of OPI so I think anymore polish purchases will have to wait).

I'm really interested in the premium range of Perma Nail, can't wait for it to come out! As for now I'll give their current range a miss.

I hadn't even thought of Hawley - I think I remember hearing that they have a self leveling system?

Thank you so much for your advice, it's been a great help :)

Get a sample from all of them, the Illume trial kit is very good value (many of my videos have been done with Illume), so you can see how it works.
So is the Ezyflow trial kit from Perma Nail.
If you get a chance, go out and see the guys at ABS (lots of goodies to look at).

Be careful about your decisions and what you buy and why you buy it ........
(it's your reputation on the line).
Who did you train with and what product did they use?

I’ve had a look online at the Illume trial kit, and it mentions never having to blend the tips – how does that work? I’ll try and download some of your videos when I get home from work tonight - I'm really interested in the Illume products! (Love the look of the packaging as well ;) )

I’m currently training at The Mask Academy in Parramatta, and we’re being trained using NSI. I’m the only class member using the odourless Spa system and I’m not very impressed with it. I’m going to switch over to the Attraction system as I prefer working with that, but I thought I’d check up on some other brands before making my decision :)

I would not be using any product that contained MMA - remember its been banned here in OZ.

Try GNB Salon Supplies - Nail and Beauty Wholesalers I received a FREE sample with my first order of their gorgeous acrylic system and loved it. Saved a packet.

I was recommended to them through a friend of a friend who attended MT Druitt TAFE and they supplied the students.

Give it a go!

You may like it, you may not - not all acrylic systems suit every nail tec, thats why there are so many.

Acrylic systems are imported from the USA.
Perma Nail's system is blended here in OZ

I have used perma nail in the past and personally think it is crap. It yellows and becomes brittle very quickly.

I use perma nail tips (revolution) and think they are great.

I have tried many L & P's but keep coming back to Creative. I do however use a different primer called "no lift nails" and have found it to be better than the creative one. I hardly get anyone with lifting problems.
