Own Shellac coming off index finger - not surprisingly - but how do you manage?

I'm wearing fabulous Asphalt & Moonlight & Roses - I do love it!

It's perfect on all nails except my right hand index finger which has peeled off, also the middle finger and thumb on same hand I can see the "seal" has gone from the tip.

These are the fingers I use when using Scrubfresh and also when removing. So its no great surprise they are suffering, poor things.

But how do you manage if you're doing other people's nails - do you all wear gloves or something?

I'm tempted to put a coat of Glaze'n'Go over the top of those fingers as it's non-porous - but resisting as obviously that's not what Shellac is all about lol

But really want to wear it as people comment on my nails and this leads to me handing out my cards :D so really want to keep it up!

What do you do?

This is exactly what's happening to me!
I was thinking of putting glaze n go over, would it work?

I'd really love to know the answer to this too.
Someone on here did mention chemical resistant gloves but I can't find them in the UK unless they are industrial type gloves (those huge thick ones that look like waders!).

Scrubfresh and Acetone eat through my latex/nitrile gloves so if anyone knows of a supplier, please??

Blossom, I think gloves is the only surefire way to protect your Shellac.
Plastic backed pads have been mentioned too as far as I can remember but not great if you're clumsy like me.

Xx

Geeg replied on another post recently about the correct way to hold a pad so that you don't put your own nails in contact with the products you are using. You pinch the wipe between your fingers. Sorry, I can't remember exactly how she explained it.

I personally use the plastic backed pads and love them.

Geeg uses the new lint free soft landings pads: pick them up between your index & middle finger. Lay these fingers on top of the pad in a V shape then pinch it to pick it up. Et voila, protected nails!! :)

Especially when scrubfreshing I kinda use the edge of my nail to get right into the sidewalls

but I'm going to give this a go

As geeg has said, you pinch the wipe in a way that means your own nails will not touch the Scrubfresh.

Although it's hard to break a habit of a lifetime if you don't hold your wipe that way, so best thing to do, is apply a second layer of Shellac top coat to those nails and you won't have that problem.

Try it and see for yourself... it works a treat!

:)

Whoops sorry, just read lu-B-lu's response... that sounds great!

I dont think an extra layer of shellac top coat will help, as I have acrylic nails and the ends and corners of those erode away a little bit what with using scrubfresh and acetone. Especially if clients have stubborn nail polish on and you really have to scrub their nails.

Don't you find that those plastic backed pads leave loads of lint? I do!

You'll have to get pinching those wipes so! :)

Yes & no :) I try not to work with them too wet, I dampen one side, Scrubfresh 1 hand, turn it around, dampen that side and Scrubfresh the other hand.

I usually only get a few fibres and remove them with a dry wipe. Maybe I've just been lucky! :)

I use the plastic ones too. I push in all the crevices to scrub fresh with my forefinger. The shellac appears to stand up to it no prob. The lint fibres are annoying, but I only get a few and can just about tolerate them. The pads are worth it, I love wearing the Shellac too much. Ha ha as I'm sure we all do. :0) x

I use lint free gauze pads and the pinching method (The plastic back pads leave lint and drive me nucking futs). I also apply two coats of top coat to my Shellac and use chemical resistant gloves over regular gloves.

Seldom, and I do mean seldom, does my Shellac peel or erode.

I use nitile gloves when ever I handle anything with acetone in it. There are many grades of nitrile gloves on the market, as with everything, you get what you pay for. I bought a box from a beauty wholeseller a while again when I could not get my normal brand as they where out of stock. Te beauty wholesellers gloves where awaful and the acetone ete straight through them. However the ones I normaly get, don't have a mark on them, even if I where to wear them for a complete service.

This is the ones I normaly buy. they are industral strength and the same as the ones used at my husbands work place which deal with chemicals a lot stronger than acetone!

Cannot wear gloves, I feel like a trussed chicken trying to work in those

For any that are wondering, I tried the Glazengo and it works in that the Shellac doesn't come off, but the Glazengo cracks in a couple of days so then unsightly so NO is really the answer to whether that works or not lol

I'm getting there with Geeg's method of holding the pads though, I think it really is the only way (for me, anyway), it takes a few days but then it kind of happens more naturally

Just thought I'd update x

I'm sorry for stupid question but what is Glaze'n'Go? X

Glaze n go is a topcoat for acrylics made by nsi, sets under uv lamp to give that extra gloss to acrylics! Can be used as a basecoat if ur painting the acrylics with nail polish.

Thank you! Clearly I'm not acrylics specialist ;)

Glaze n go is a hard gel topcoat and using any hard gel over a soft (soak off) gel or shellac will cause unsightly cracking. Have you tried wrapping your fingers with tech wrap? Might be less trussed up feeling lol x
