Hi, Where can you do a course on paraffin wax? The manicure course i did at college did not cover it. My friend who has her own salon seems to think I should be able to do this as its just like heating up a wax pot?

Bit worried about introducing something new when i don't have a certificate...:Scared:

hi it is like wax !!! you can pop it on with a wax brush or dip the hands or feet into it,

just like wax you test it before applying ,

apply a nice layer usually you need to put on a couple layers wrap them in polythene you can get bags, place in booties towel of mitts and leave to work !!!

(put some lotion on first ) :)

easy as pie !!!

You really shouldn't be doing paraffin wax treatments without the training or you wont be covered, insurance wise.

I think possibly Sally's or somewhere like that may do the training. It is easy, however insurance policies state in the small print that we have to be trained in the treatment being offered in order to be able to do the treatment.

If in a worse case scenario you burnt someone then you really wouldn't have a leg to stand on.HTH

her friend owns a salon she can show her if she is competent in manicure she will be competent enough to use wax !!

Sorry but that is not true, she may be shown and feel perfectly competent in the treatment, its the same with intimate waxing, even if you are qualified in waxing and may know how to perform an intimate wax you will not be covered.FACT!!!

Hi, Thanks for all the advice. I would be happier doing a course though just to be on the safe side:Love:

Good for you,we can all think we are competent through watching a treatment etc however the small print on our insurance states what we are or are not trained in...paraffin wax is very seperate from manicures and pedicures. It sounds silly to some but it's how it is and it's not worth leaving yourself wide open for.HTH

Why dont you ask your friend to show you how to apply paraffin wax? If you have a certificate in waxing you more likely covered by your insurance to use paraffin wax.
x

While you're there why not get your friend to show you how to do intimate waxing then you can just do that too:rolleyes:I have already explained in previous replies on this thread that just because you may know how to wax(incidently this is totally different than paraffin wax)does not mean that you will be covered to carry out paraffin wax treatments.

CHECK your insurance, paraffin wax is listed totally seperate to other treatments. Therefore being competent in manicure or waxing does not mean that you will be competent in paraffin wax treatments or insured.

Also the friend who told you,'if you can do a mani you can do a pedi has some very strange ideas.

For example, the problens that are associated with feet are completely different than that of hands...ie athletes foot etc,the massage routine is very different, well it would be,wouldn't it?

This is supposed to be a professional industry we work in,telling people you can do one treatment because you can do something else or telling someone that it's okay to carry out treatments if a friend that owns a salon shows them how to do the treatments, is ridiculous and untrue.(on a friend or family member maybe, but not on a paying client)

Im sorry if I sound harsh here, that's not my intention but unlike some I do take my job seriously and I would never think I could show one of the hairdressers in a salon how to tint eyelashes then think well, she can colour hair(on the head)so why cant she do eyelash tinting:Scared:.It just doesn't work like that at all.

There are lots of contra-indications to different treatments and contra actions, some apply to one treatment and not to the other, and vice versa. This is why it's important to gain the qualification needed.

Insurance is there for a reason, some things are silly/a bit petty I know and I agree but please do get the relevent training because it is easy for an accident to happen and you will not be covered at all if you dont have the relevent training or insurance.HTH

ps glad you have enlisted on a proper course.Hope you enjoy it.

You dont sound harsh....your right. I am very new to the insustry, and im still training in nails, so i think its best to do it right.
I work in helth care as my 'day job' and its the same thing.....just because you can get yourself up/washed/dresses in the morning, doesnt mean you can go into someone with MND and do the same! It takes training and experience in any job x And Thanks xxx

Yes BABS, I too take my job very seriously and I would never tell someone who does manicures or/and nail extensions to start offering pedicures without training
If she is qualified and experienced would have no difficulties in applying the paraffin wax. It is really just common sense.
