I am a senior stylist/ manager with 20 plus years of experience. Was wondering if my salary of £22,500 is what is expected at this level???? I'm level 3 trained and work in a small East Midlands town. I believed this was reasonable am I right?

Is that before or after tax? Do you get commission on top?

I think that's a pretty good deal to be fair. If you've got 20 years of experience and worked in that area the whole time you must have a huge clientele. If your not happy with the money why not start up your own salon? X

Or go mobile? But unless your self-employed I don't think your gonna get a much higher wage x

That doesnt like much at all considering youre so experienced. Im not sure how much employed hairdressers earn on average but the top self employed stylists at the place i juniored at were on at least 30k, though cambs has an average price of £38 for a womans cut and blowdry if that helps.

20 years of experience but how qualified are you? What courses have you been on? Are you regularly attending business courses? Have you grown the salon?

You could have 20 years of experience and have done nothing since level 3 20years ago.

Or you could have 20 years of course, thousands of ££ invested in training, working on stage, doing seminars, working in a salon which is going from strength to strength.

Sounds like a decent wage when you consider most businesses pay minimum wage and then a commission on top

I remember going to a seminar and a salon owner was explaining that when he was interviewing for new staff he told them they could earn as much as they wanted if they worked hard and smart! He paid a commission.

When I was based in salon we got a basic wage then had to do 3 times the basic wage before we made 20% commission. It was hard to earn decent money. If it looked like we had taken £1000 in a wk they would net it down (minus 20%) to £800 then pay commission!

Your deal sounds good! Some Hairdressing Tutors that go to University and gain numerous qualifications earn less then that in the Private sector xx

Well that's what I thought except my boss is trying to reduce this!!!!!

If you're employed, your boss can't simply decide to reduce your salary without your agreement.

If you're worried, speak to an employment specialist. Citizens Advice have offices in Derby & Nottingham so you could try them first.
