Pleeeeeeease could any of you skin geeks help me..?
I have spoken to numerous professionals about this but no one seems to be able to help me.
Before i start, i swear to god this is true!!!
About 5 years ago i applied St Tropez mousse (which i still like) to my legs one sunny morning and rather than leave it to develop and rinse off next day i applied and pulled on my knee high leather boots and left the house.
The next morning there were 2 white lines (one round each leg) where the boots had rubbed the tan off!
Ok, i thought- my fault, dosy cow!
What happened next horrified me...
I let that fade and decided to start again, this time leaving overnight.
I woke up with two DARKER THAN DARK lines around my legs!!!!!!!!:Scared:
What the hell is going on???
To this day if i stay au naturel lily white you cant see a thing.
As soon as fake tan is applied/develops the sodding lines come up reeeeeeally dark- oh please help!!!
Ive tried acetone on it, and glycolic acid- nothing, wont budge.
I asked my GP for referral to a skin specialist, she refused and said no one would see me, they would just tell me to stop using fake tan, which to me is not an answer to the problem, i still want to know whats happened but more than anything to be able to bare my legs again on hols this year...

Have you tried applying a barrier cream like Aqueous very thinly to those areas so that less solution comes into contact with the skin?
x

What are the lines like when you tan in the sun? Do they get darker? Any mishaps I encounter are solved with a shower involving body scrub and baby oil but don't know why, years later, and with natural shedding etc that these lines still exist  sorry if that wasn't much help xxx

Thanks for reply. Yes ive tried that too!

i know its madness. I can exfoliate the whole lot off and its ok but i dont want to be whiter than white..!
As for the natural sun i find it very difficult to get any colour so i have no clue if it would show with a natural tan.
Ive been thinking that maybe something in the tan reacted with the new leather and caused a reaction? I wrote to st tropez and they flat out denied their product would do this but i know how i got the bloody marks!!!

Very interesting. I have never seen nor heard of this before and believe me, I've pretty much seen and heard it all as far as tanning is concerned. OK, firstly, you state that the boots you wore after you had the tan which seems to have caused the problem were leather. Can I ask what colour leather? I know it's unlikely but if you still have these boots, can you also check inside to see if they have changed colour on the inside too? DHA (the tanning active which makes you brown) is also used to dye leather so you may be right that there has been some kind of reaction between the leather rubbing on your skin and the DHA from the tanning solution although, it is very strange that it disappears completely only to reappear with every spray tan.

As someone else asked, what happens when you tan in the sun? Does this line appear when you have a normal UV tan? And can you post a pic of the lines that appear every time you have a spray tan? Are you using the same fake tanner all the time?

In the meantime, I will do a little more research for you it is a very strange problem indeed
