Does anyone offer permanent make up. If so I'd love your views on your successes and any probs you have encountered, or any general advice.

hiya!

I dont actually do the semi permanent makeup but theres a lady that comes in the salon every few weeks that does it. a client had their eyebrows done last week and they looked brill! she was meant to have the eyeline done aswell but it was just too painful for her. she said it was like pins going in her eyes!

sorry i cant help you more but it looks fabulous in my opinion!
x

hi i have seen it done at shows, and it looks fab, i was gonna have my eyes done but chickened out, have you seen this months babtac magazine, it has an article on it!!! i would definatley research it if you are having it done ,

Thanks guys!

I am actually looking to do the training and do it myself but as it is a huge investment I just wanted to know peoples views on it especially as the treatments aren't cheap.
The system i am thinking of using has an element which helps to "freeze" the area being worked on and so helps reduce discomfort (pain!) and swelling.

i am also going to train in semi permanent make-up. I've booked my course for May with natural enhancment. It is a major investment but you could make your money back within a year. I feel it is a very skilled job so you have to be sure you could do it you must be artistic and not squemish its a good idea to see a treatment being carried out first. Your bigest thing will be marketing.

I have been thinking about doing this as well, but with nouveau contour, same people i did my lash course with. Only thing i am thinking about is there really that big a market in providing this kind of service? Is it quite popular? I am going to get one of the trainers who works freelance but does loads of celebs to do my eyebrows soon. Do you think that there is a lot of clients out there that want it done?

Have to say it wasn't as busy as I thought it would be. A good way is to approach your local salons and offer them a referral scheme.

have you found you made your initial outlay back then sass ???

Nope! But I've stopped doing it for the time being as my insurance expired and the place where I did it from I can't use anymore, so will start it again when I move.

You do need a steady hand, a good eye for colour (colour theory is MEGA important) and a strong stomach!! I nearly passed out when I saw my first treatment, there was so much blood!!

yeah i couldnt do it , it makes me cringe :irked: !! i was just curious :green:

I specialise in permanent make up and have done for nearly 6 years so any questions you have feel free to send them my way!

I found it hard to promote in the early days but now it kinda sells itself...i get a lot of my clients now from past clients so I don't have to put much effort in to drumming up more business.

As Sassy said you do definitely need a steady hand, an extremely good eye for colour and it is definitely something you need to be skilled at...it is not a treatment whereby anyone can pick up a training kit and do the job!

Hi there, our master tattooist, Kirsty, is going to be doing the make up this year, she's a fully trained beautision, yer I know I can't spell, as well and we have so many peeps lined up already that we are going to have to spread it out with her tattoo art or we'll have a war between the clients.:Scared: Helen our lady boss had permenant eye liner done about 3 years ago and it still looks fab, I think its getting more and more popular because so many of us have such busy lives that anything that can save us a bit of time with out us looking dog rough is going to prove popular. I want to have my lips done because I can have the line done a little bit out side my natural lip line and get a fuller look which will last a lot longer than the colegen injections.

Permanent make up is definitely getting more popular....your absolutely right! it is featured all over the place nowadays!

if you do decide to have your lips done ensure that the line is ever so slightly outside the lips, you may choose to have it blended in towards the lip as this has a great appearance and very popular at the moment.

Hi i was just wondering then where would you go/ who would you contact to do this sort of thing? Was thinking of having my eye-brows done, was gonna have them tattooed on but thought if i didn't like them then i'm stuck? How long do they last? As they fade don't they? Don't know of anywhere near me that does this sort of thing? I have my eye-lashes done now & then, but they don't do permenant make-up. Don't want to go to just anyone as i don't have thick eye-brows through choice i thicken mine with a brow pencil, so if they messed up boy would it show!! How much does it usually cost by the way?? Sos for all the questions!!:D

do a search on the net, you should get loads of choices

Was thinking of having my eye-brows done, was gonna have them tattooed on but thought if i didn't like them then i'm stuck?

whoever you choose to do the procedure should go through a thorough consultation - this ensures that when the procedure is done there is very little chance of you not liking them! you decide on the colour and shape and the specialist needs to then mix a custom blend of colour pigment to exactly match your desired colour and then helps to make sure both your eyebrows are even....this is essential before the procedure is started.

How long do they last?

This varies from person to person but is generally around 3-5 years

As they fade don't they?

How quickly they fade will partly depend on how well you look after the your eyebrows when they have been done.

Don't know of anywhere near me that does this sort of thing? I have my eye-lashes done now & then, but they don't do permenant make-up. Don't want to go to just anyone as i don't have thick eye-brows through choice i thicken mine with a brow pencil, so if they messed up boy would it show!!

go to someone who knows what they are doing and this won't happen!

How much does it usually cost by the way??

This varies from area to area and also how experienced the specialist is. Ask loads of questions and ask about their training, how long they have been doing the procedures and how many they have done. Another good thing to ask about is if they have any reccommendations from clients who've had it done.....i have a book of letters from happy clients, new clients like to see these. oh, and one other thing ask to see loads and loads of before and after pics! this should help you decide if you want that person to do yours for you!

Sos for all the questions!!:D

my replies are in purple....hope this helps! xx
anymore questions, chuck 'em my way!!

Can I just say..............as a possible client, that it's way too over priced. To have it done that is. Yeah, yeah, I know it costs a lot to train but then so do most professions, i.e. Nails, Hair, Alternative Therapies.

The average for eyebrows is £350 and that is exactly why the machines sit in the corner gathering dust. If you charged £100, they'd be lining up around the block and you be making a massive profit in no time.

your right kimmi, it does cost a lot of money to train to do permanent make up...over the last 5 years i have invested over £20,000 in training alone, plus the added costs of having the majority of my products and equipment shipped in from the states! not to mention trips out there to update my knowledge!!

in all the time i have been doing pmu my machines have never sat in a corner gathering dust...i think it is the kind of treatment that people need to specialise rather than having it as an add on service, for people who have it is an add on to other things it may not do so well. i suppose i have been lucky and have never had to push it that much to get plenty of clients.

if pmu specialists were to charge £100, working that a lot of people charge around £30-£35 for a full set of nails, that would be equal to roughly 3 sets of nails, each of which only last around 2 weeks before the need to return to the nail tech....most of my clients (unless having another procedure) return every few years so when you look at it like that they are getting a lot for their money! and they are also saving on buying make up!

there are always threads on here telling newbies/mobile nail techs to not under price their work so why should permanent make up be any different?

if i have any slow times then i update my website, which usually does the trick, or i send out an email/letter to everyone on my mailing list letting them know of 20% offer (which usually gets passed on to friends and family)...that works wonders!

I agree Jenn! I took the view that people will pay hundreds of pounds for hair extensions that may only last a few months. PMU lasts for years and for someone with alopecia, to get out of the shower / pool etc and still have eyebrows is a mega confidence booster.

I have to say I never really promoted mine that well, and typically now that I made the decision to stop doing it til I move, I had 4 enquiries in one week!

I would like to do this but what if the doorbell rang and it made you jump for example, and then your hand slipped and you did a wonky browline. How would you repair it?? I am too nervous to undertake a course like this yet, but would do it if I could pluck up the courage.

It is possible to flush out an "error" with saline. But if you are at all nervous about doing it then it may not be for you. You have to stay cool, calm and collected at all times and be able to put your client at ease.
