Hi,

I really miss flicking through photo albums but i do love my digital camera and the fact that i can upload my pics and see them straight away on my pc.

What do you guys do...?

Do you save them all on a disk and look at them from time to time...?

Do you print them off yourself or use a on line company..(if so which one)..?

I get worried about my computer packing up and losing all my pictures...should i be saving them onto a disk.

Thanks xx

Since we went digital all our photos are on the pc - we've got the screensaver to show random pictures which is great, you never know what's coming next!

I print some off, I tend to take a cd to Boots and do it on their machine...... Like you I don't have them backed up anywhere though - should do that......

We store all ours on the PC and another laptop.

We do print out at home but not that many - especially ones with me in:green:

You should make sure you back up your photos and keep them somewhere safe, not near your computer. That way if something happens, eg a leak above your computer, then your cd isn't ruined along with your computer. You should also recopy your cd/dvd every few years, as they have a limited lifespan even if they are not being used for viewing, only for storage. It's ok me saying this, but I've not backed up either!

I've been meaning to get around to making up a photobook of my daughter's wedding. photbox.co.uk are doing a two-for-one at the moment. I know Jessops also do them, and they seem to have more page layouts. I'm sure there are a lot of other companies that do them too. I've also thought about getting on of those 7" lcd picture display frames, as they do a slideshow of the pictures on the card you put in.
One of these days I'll get around to it all!!!!

i love looking a photo albums also but for the past 3 years our photos are on the pc. we have had about 4 pc crashes loosing loads of pics, its really upset me as they are of our little girl walking ect but since then i have always put them on discs. i could never go back to using a none digital camera being able to take a photo and then have it on her with in minutes is great.

and no more waiting for the postie to bring them (trueprint).

I back up all my pics onto disc, and I use a thing called Picassa, its free to download and you can get fab effects on your pics, like sepia, b&w, popart etc.
If you want to blow a pic up poster size, then Snapfish is very good and Ive used them before.

Otherwise I look at them from time to time and print out my favs to put into albums!

Since my computer crashed and I lost a load of photos I've changed the way I store them.
I take my digital camera down to tesco's and get it downloaded onto a disc. Only costs 99p. Then I can choose at leisure which ones I want to put in albums (still love flicking through them!) I also store my discs away from the pc, upstairs in a box under my bed.

I upload my fave ones, onto photobucket or truprint, you can save your albums there aswell as having them printed.
which i have done , and they were fab ,good quality ,quick delivery ,good value
I cant fault them ,

I like keeping all mine on a internet hosting thing somewhere because i know what im like, I would lose a disc if i did that ,
so at least having them on the internet in my own albums they cant get lost or scratched,..

i have mine saved onto dvd (holds so many more than cd) i have used asda online to print some off and tescos too, but most of moine i print of myself in smaller format and put in my scrapbooks, we have 3 massive 12 x12 scrapbooks full now of family memories and also 2 smaller 8 x 8 ones, i love it and so do the kids, and if you have something special the pic reminds you of, you can wirte it in a caption box on that page etc

xxxxxx

Sorry to hijack Angie, but speaking of getting pics printed, anyone know a cheap/decent site ? thanks xx

Snapfish are pretty good and also virginmedia (formaly blueyonder) also have an option to print online.
Theres also photobox, kodakgallery.com and loads more that are all pretty easy and cheap to use. Some even offer your first order (or up to 40 prints) free. HTH

my computer recently died and i had hundreds of photos on there. i did have most of them on a disk but as i uploaded new photos a couploe of times a week u i didn't wana make a new cd every time (should get re-writable ones!)

definately back up ur photos!! hopefully we're gona get mine off the hard drive. i had photos of all the cards i've ever made over about 2 yrs and would refer to them for ideas.

for printing i nearly always go to jessops - my bf used to work there and is still friends with his manager so i normally get a pretty decent discount - often free if only a few so i'm using it while i can in case he decides to leave!!!

I agree Angie, you should back your pics up hun onto a disk. It's not difficult to do when you know how, lol, I'm still learning. You need to do it regularly if you are taking quite a few digi pics.

I have a photo printer at home so I print my favourites pics out. I love my digi camera and would be lost without it. xx

ok so to save onto a disk...what disks do i have to get...is there a certain name for them...(sorry i am totally useless at this)...then i guess its just a case of clicking on the pic...then saving to disk...??

Thanks everyone x

i think you have to have a certain program to burn to disk. i used to have nero - it's so simple to use. i have just got a new computer though and it seems to have it's own program installed.

you just need regular cds u can record on - but unless you get re-writable ones you won't be able to add more pics once you've burnt the pics you want on it.

hope that makes sense!! xx

ohh right...i was thinking floppy disks...so i need cd's then...i don't think my comp does that. (told ya i was useless..)

I got into photography in a big way a couple of years ago with the purchase of a digital slr. A the really tough thing is managing all the photos you take and making sure you have a back up. Oh and finding a good place to get them printed.

I had a look through the magazines and photobox came top for online printers. the quality is great and you get plenty of space to up load photos to them. This then can be a back up of your photos.

A lot of people are mentioning that their computers crash completely and can not get any of there data back. I would reccommend an back up hard drive that 'mirrors' (completely copies) the one in your computer. The solution i use for this is a netgear sc101 and a IDE 3.5" hard drive installed (it is quite easy), this works out at about £120. With this you know that not only your photos but everything is copied. I know that £120 is quite a lot of money but it does buy complete piece of mind.

If it is just the photos you want copied then use cds and take two copies because cd's are really that cheap. Put one away for safe keeping and one for general use use if needed.

I hope some of that helps.

as my computer has also took a poop a couple of times............ and I've lost graduation photos and other important stuff ........I now back my photos up at leased once a month onto a CD......to add the new ones......I download new pic at leased once every two weeks .....because I'm a photo pig.....and I don't want to lose anymore

only wish I could get the photos off my old hard drive:irked:

Hi Melissa
You may still be able to get photos off your old hard drive. There are companies that specialise in data retreval - it just can be quite expensive. Try a search on google.
