Hi Guys,

I'm a trained beauty therapist who has zero experience with hair and I decided that I would have some hair extensions fitted as a treat to myself, sadly I'm now suffering!

I've been scouring the Internet for the last few days as I've had quite a severe reaction to some pre bonded hair extensions I had fitted less than 2 weeks ago.

My scalp is so sore that I can't even brush my hair and I have several bald patches.

The itching is so bad that I'm almost in tears :(

They weren't cheap, but I'm more concerned about my poor natural hair and scalp!

I have quite thin natural hair and to be honest the colour of the extensions doesn't really match my natural colour.

I followed every piece of aftercare advice and even bought the recommended shampoo and conditioner from the hairdresser who fitted them.

I'm desperate to find out what could have caused this problem, I've attached some photos and any advice would be very warmly received :)

Have you been back to the salon that fitted them?

Thank you for your reply.

I have, however they have advised me that it isn't their fault.. I have no idea where to go from here!

As I have zero experience with hair extensions, I have no clue whether they were fitted correctly - most of them have little puffs of my hair before the tip (I hope that makes sense :) ), it is like they have slipped, and I don't know if this is normal.

The extensions are sort of dotted all over my head instead of in lines, I was told this was because my hair was thin?

Again any advice is very much appreciated :)

They look very poorly fitted, in my opinion. Yes, they should be fitted in neat rows.

I think as you have severe itching and bald patches, get them removed ASAP.

Go back to the salon and ask for a refund and tell them that you will be suing them because their negligent work has caused you physical harm - itching and bald patches.

That might make them pay up but they might try to wriggle out if it.

Was the salon recommended to you?

They were recommend to me and they have fantastic reviews on Google & Facebook - they used to work at a hairdressers and they have done pre bonded extensions for 7 years (so they told me). I genuinely believed that they were going to be fantastic! They are a freelance extentionist who works from home.

They said they didn't even have to offer to remove the extensions for free, this was a goodwill gesture on their part apparently - She said how can I expect her to refund me when it's not her fault - She said it has nothing to do with the way they are fitted, she then insinuated that it was the shampoo she recommended that may have caused the reaction, as it's impossible to have an allergic reaction to keratine pre bonded extensions.

I've e-mailed a couple of hair/salon clinics and I'm awaiting their reply.

As I had no idea what was right and wrong with extensions I had no idea whether to press for a refund. I'm not an unreasonable woman, but I feel so disappointed and let down, especially if these things have caused permanent damage.

I'm not sure how I go about asking for a refund, I sent her the photos I've attached here and she implied that you could see the bonds because I hadn't styled the hair correctly - she said when she fitted them you couldn't see the bonds, which in fairness you couldn't but within a few hours once the hair settled you could see them clearly.

Thank you again so much for your advice.

It looks as if the strands are much thicker than the hair ahes attached them too as well which they shouldn't be. I would contact the extensions company, show them photos. Even if it's not the salons fault I still believe they should refund you and then contact the company for a refund.

Colour looks too light for your hair to me, but it could be the lighting in the photo. Are extensions 1g? If you have very fine hair 0.6g may have been a better choice for a first set of extensions on fine hair. Did they do a test strand first? (Apply a couple of strands and let you live with them for a week)? Don't get me wrong this is not the norm but can be done if client unsure or has very fine hair.
Hope you get it sorted.

Thank you ever so much for your reply.

I did say that I would contact the company who supplied the hair and aftercare products, which I believe is Hairplanet, so I can of course contact them.

As far as the lady that fitted them, she is adament I will not be getting any form of refund from her, as all of her other clients are over the moon and I'm the only one who has ever had an issue apprently.

Thank you for your advice :)

What's your dream

When I went for my consultation, she advised that I had an awkward blonde colour hair that was lighter on the ends than the top of my hair - she ordered these as she said it was the nearest match to my real colour. When I was at the consultation I did mention that I had thin hair and the main reason for me getting these extensions was to add volume, but she didn't offer a test run so to speak.

To be honest, I have no idea where the blame lies, but I feel as though I'm bearing the brunt of it. I didn't even know it was possible to have this reaction to the pre bonded extensions, if I had I would've never of had them fitted. I also feel like they are fobing me off a bit which is really upsetting me.

Thank you for your advice :)

I use hair planet and the hair is 0.8gram although I have always thought it's a bit more. She looks like she has fitted them to tight to the scalp too. This is probably what is causing the itching and sore sensation.

You need to tell her you will take legal action if she doesn't remove them. She should remove them for free. She is being highly rude and unprofessional.

I hope this gets all sorted for you because that by no means is right what she is putting you through.

She's fobbing you off!

Don't bother contacting the Hair extension supplier. It's got nothing to do with them as your contract is with the person who you paid to supply and fit the extensions.

Ask for a full refund and send her a solicitors letter, if she refuses to pay up. She's caused actual harm to your scalp by the poor fitting and that's unacceptable. Even if she blames the shampoo, she supplied it!

Frankly, I wouldn't trust most reviews on Facebook as they're rarely genuine these days. They delete the stuff they don't like and get pals to post to bump up the good reviews.

Thank you ever so much for your reply.

She said that she has an assistant I can contact who will remove them free of charge as a gesture of goodwill on her part, but to be honest the whole thing has been so tainted that I was thinking of going to a salon where their extentionist could take them out for me.

I have lots of photos of what the hair looks like and what it has done to my scalp, which have all been sent to her. She thinks that I am taking this all out on her, when it isn't her fault as she said she is an expert and fitted them correctly.

I have no idea whether taking legal action is even possible, if she is saying they are fitted correctly.. I guess it will be yet more expense for a solicitor/Barrister - To be honest, it isn't just the money, I'm just so devastated that I've had this reaction and potentially caused myself more issues by having them put in :(

Thank you so much for your advice :)

I think I'm going to have to grow a pair and get firm with her.. Honestly, I have no idea what is wrong with me, I feel so stupid for trusting this woman! And as you say how much can you ever really trust reviews on bloody facebook!

I'll get in touch with a local solicitor today as one of the hair/scalp clinics I contacted specialise in providing witness statements for negligence claims.

Thank you so much again :)

Expert? Lol, she's definitely no expert judging by the pictures you posted.

Stand your ground and don't let her fob you off. That's seriously shoddy work and gives good hair extensionists a bad name!

I promise those photos are as the hair looks, I haven't done anything to them as my scalp is so sore :( She basically implied that I hadn't styled them correctly, as when she did them you couldn't see the bonds, until several hours later that is!

I am going to send her a message now to get the ball rolling, I will let you know how I get on, but I think it is going to be a Solicitor job as she is not budging one bit!

Thank you so much for your help and advice

They do look sore, even on thin hair I do rows of bonds.never placed them like that. I'd go to a specialist extension salon and let them have a look and give you their professional opinion and ask them to remove the extensions, the assistant she said will remove them might not even be qualified and may cause more damage. It's just not worth the risk to your scalp and hair. Hope you get this sorted and definitely a refund xxx

I've just sent her a message and I hope upon hope that she understands where I'm coming from. I have an appointment at a salon that deals with extensions today, so I'm hoping to get their opinion and hopefully once they are removed my scalp can start repairing itself and that the bald patches eventually grow back!

My thoughts exactly! I thought if the person was affiliated with her and she is miffed at me for causing a fuss, I doubt very much that I would end up with a good service, I would probably end up as bald as a badger!

Thank you so much for your advice.

It's such a shame she has been like this with you.

Words travel fast and I'm not saying to blast her but make sure if your friends are thinking of getting them done to avoid her. Because the last thing you want is this happening to somebody else too.

It's a shame you don't live close because I would of come and removed them for you! AcidPerm is right, she has just fobbed you off.

Highly unprofessional and disrespectful on your part.

I hope it all gets sorted for you today.

Thank you so much :)

I have certainly learnt my lesson! Next time do my research properly.

I will keep you updated with how things go.. Fingers crossed she sees the error of her ways..

Well, she is local within the area and said that she has 800 regular repeat clients who have never had a problem. I guess I'm just special :)

Thank you so much for your advice x

I wonder if she's actually qualified and insured?
800 regulars?

she's definitely telling porkies.

This may sound ridiculous, but is there any way that I can find out if she is qualified and insured?

Thank you so much for your advice.
