good morning all,

hope someone can shed some light on my problem, did twosets of gel enhancements yesturday on millenium salon gold tips which i brought the other day,i did my prep, put my tips on and blended them alittle,i then did 3 coats of gel and cured for the reccomended time according to manufacturer and when i came to buffing and applying my polish on a at least 2 nails on both of my ladies, there seemed to be what looked like a crack in the actual tip,it wasnt there when i blended in so it must of occured during curing.could anyone tell me what may have caused this and wt would prevent it from happening again?

A crack in the tip shouldn't have occured from the curing... it's more likely to have happened from getting an acetone based product on the tips.
Did you wipe the tips with a sanitiser before applying your gel?

Don't know if this has anything to do with it, but i was using on a couple of clients white tips and gel and they kept peeling off, it turns out you cant cure white tips under a UV lamp as the light bounces off or something and doesnt actually cure the gel.

Using clear gel would be ok if using white tips, remember to remove shine though. White gel on white tips won't cure fully as the white tip prevents the white gel curing from the underside.

I have used Millenium tips before and found that they cracked a lot using gel. I think that if you are not capping sides and free edge you may get shrinkage which applies pressure on the tip and it cracks. Could be talking a load of rubbish but I dont use these tips anymore. I buy better quality (more expensive, sorry Millenium) now with more flexibility.

I have just had a client back with cracked tips down the centre of the nail. There were 4 in total and I was taining on her using NSI L&P absolute. I think I may have been working too wet which when dry has caused shrinkage and then cracking.

I have just booked myself on a trouble shooting afternoon though with a lady that specialises in NSI to iron out these problems.
Good Luck

I had some Edge Tips that cracked down the middle length wise and was told that it is becasue of what they are made out of (ABS plastic i think) and they werent flexible so they cracked!!!!

All quality tips are made of ABS plastic.. virgin ABS is best as it means that the left over plastic doesn't get melted and reused to make more tips.

i did use a product called nail fresh by the edge which is a sanitiser.could this have caused the problem?if it id the tips what others can i use that arent too expensive?

you can still use it but just not on the tips...apply to the natural nail only and stay away from where you have applied and blended the tip.. x

Is it possible that your gel application was too thick and therefor, the shrinkage ratio too high so it applied pressure to the tips and then cracked them? (better a tip than a natural nail)

How many coats did you use to apply your gel?
or did you do it in one shot?
Better to do multiple (2-3) thin layers.... than one thick one.

hi there i did one thin layer, followed by a slightly thicker layer,i then buffed and smoothed and did another thin coat to finish off.:)
