Please Help! - salon placement, Goole area

hi everyone! im in my last year at college nvq level3 Beauty Therapy and i have finished all my exams and practical assessments so instead of going to college and doing nothing or havning the day off my tutor has assigned me to find a salon placement for 1 day a week - non paid for me to attend for a few weeks or untill i finish college. i have called every salon in goole (where i live) and no luck or in Hull. So can anyone help me out - if you know any salons - nail bars ect that would be willing to have me 1 day a week please please reply as im desperate! thanks in advance - bev x

as well as ringing salons (which is awful i cannot see why they would turn down free staff!) have you tried tanning salons, nail bars and day spa's? some hotels have salons in them have you tried those too?

could you go back to the salon you did your work experience at when you did level 2? good luck xx

yes i am open to all options as i am desperate. i have rang the salons i did in level 1 & 2 but have been beaten to the post. it is last minuite as my tutor wasnt going to give us salon placements but she has no other practial work or theory for me untill the others catch up. its terrible ringing up as alot are extremely stuck up! but yes i can but try - i have rang every single salon in my immediate area so now im trying the nearby cities. meaning im to travel an hour to get there oh well - if anyone got any ideas for me please reply! thankyou ! x

How about putting an advert in your local suppliers
Sally's hair & beauty for example or which ever suppliers are local to you hth,
i don't understand salons that wont take on a placement for a few weeks, its not as if it costs them anything,
i would have let you come to mine if i had been close enough for you,

This is why we NEED more salon owners like loubylou. This industry is crying out for passionate owners in the know, who make it THEIR business to know OUR business :hug:

I really undestand why you feel so frustrated beautybybev, I struggled to find a work placement because no one round here knows what a BTec is - I got told by numerous so-called salons that they 'dont take on people with learning difficulties'!!! I do not have learning difficulties but did take offence and their discriminatory attitude and lack of knowledge about quals in their industry!

Well if you can travel to shipley, that is next to bradford, in west yorkshire,
i know it is quite a way for you but i would willingly let you have a placement at mine,
have a look on the google maps so you know where it is and how far it is for you to travel and let me know hun

it is a bit hard to get to via trains or bus as i havent passed driving - yet! but thankyou so very much loublylou your a star and more salon owners should be like you - a note to all the salon owners who discriminate & slam the phone down on us trainies you were where i am at one point you have to start somewhere so you should all take a note out off loublylous' book & anyone else who welcomes placments! thanks geeks ! x
