i did a hollywood wax on a regular client(she has had it done before) on tues and she has called back today saying she has blisters!
i used perron rigot euroblonde as always, used it on this client last time too.
i did everything as normal, nothing different at all, wax temp all fine, so cant imagine what has happened.
i havent actually spoken to her yet as reception took a message as i was busy with client so im not sure as to the severity of it.
just wanted to see what you guys would suggest before i ring back.
is there anything i can tell her to put on it?
should i ask her to come in so i can actually see whats going on? very difficult to imagine what she is describing when you cant see it i know!

Please help if you can.
Thanks.

You definately need to have a look yourself.

I agree with Gillian, ask her to come in so you can have a look and see if its pustules, blisters or burns. That way you can get an idea of what might have gone wrong or what to suggest to put on it

Thanks for the replies so far, for the things you mentioned, (pustules, blisters, burns) what would you suggest to put on those please?

If its Hives, its best to cool with ice or a cold compress, but they would normally disappear after a few hours. If it is pustules, again cold compress can help (but best directly after waxing) or you can apply witch hazel to calm the area.
Burns would either occur if the wax is too hot or not enough oil is applied underneath the wax or if the wax is pulled at a wrong angle. They tend to take a few days to heal and whilst they look unsightly they wont cause any damage but its best to apply some anti bacterial creme.

When the client comes back to you, you should be able to see what it is and how severe it is, whether it is just a reaction which can happen even though she has been waxed with you before or if something has gone wrong.

If you retail after electrolysis gel that would be good but really you need to see what the problem is first before recommending anything otherwise you are admitting there is a problem that you may have caused.
I slap sudocrem on everything.

Sorry to hijack this ! I waxed my sisters upper lip on Monday and today she has texted to say that she has a rash with white spots, what do you suggest to clear it up???? The wax was not to hot, used jasmine oil before hand and the essentail oil after???

Yes you definately need to see it. People can exagerate slightly. It could just be little white spots. Aloe gel is good. Or if you sell Dermalogica give her some barrier repair cream. Let us know how you get on hun xxx

Sorry I can't really be much help but it's got me wondering whether waxing could possibly bring on an outbreak of herpes if somebody (God forbid) suffered from it? Say if the skin was irritated and they were a bit run down? Not suggesting your client has herpes of course, lol

just posting an update, not much of an update tho...
... just rang to ask her to pop in so i can see what going on... got through to answer machine but hoping she will call back soon.
Thanks so much for your support :green:

This is usually a healing or a histamine reaction. You are ripping hairs out which causes the body to go 'ooh dont like it' and produce a rush of lymph and white cells to the area which is why she now has white spots.
As the skin gets used to the waxing she will suffer less.
You could try leaving out the oils and just using something like witch hazel after.

what aftercare did you give her?!?

i have had clients who think we give aftercare advice for no reason other than to keep them in the room a bit longer and gone swimming or for a sunbed after! It could be something shes done as appose to something you have!!

yeah, that thought had crossed my mind, however much aftercare you give some clients still ignore it. very hard to prove she did anything of the such as she will most likely deny it even if she had.
anyway, cant decide much 'til ive seen her, she hasnt phoned back as yet...

Great replies, thanks so much :green:

Oh yeah, aftercare wise advised not to sunbed/steam/sauna/swim/fake tan/exfoliate for at least 24hrs, possibly 48hrs to be sure.

Thankyou for your reply, she usually bleaches her upper lip

I think Spa Therapist has a good point. Be aware that if this is blisters and the wax was not hot, it could be a Herpes outbreak. You will need to see for yourself and if I were you, if it is actual blisters, I would refer her to her doctor. I know that I will get a coldsore if I hurt my upper lip in any way or if I am run down. :)

Blisters are also something that can appear in this area if there is an incorrect balance in the gut of good and bad bacteria,
if she does have blisters in this area when you see her send her to her GP for a check up, hth

Sudocream.....it works wonders. x

Hi, just about to do an intimate waxing course so studying up on it before hand.

Some of you have mentioned a herpes breakout. i too get coldsores on my upper lip, especially wen run down or if skin becomes slightly grazed (for instance after wax) but herpes is a virus which lives in the nerve and travels down to the skin at the time of trauma isn't it? Surely this would mean the lady would already have to have herpes?

Sorry, probably getting sidetracked by the nature of the reply but I like to know these things :)
