Hi Guys

Im in a little bit of a pickle.

I have been training with bio and have my assement in December, i was pretty unlucky with booking my assesment as they are fully booked so i had to wait 4 months :irked:

I have been busy practicing and now have people that I see every few weeks but i have not been charging .... and quite honestly its costing me an absolute FORTUNE to keep up with them.

I know that im training and not fully qualified but with a full time job and a client nearly every night of the week im just not feeling any benefits. Im also really worried now charging them ( even just for materials) when i am qualified. Not to sound too rude but im paying for them to have there nails done and have been for months!

I wondered if any other geeks have had this problem. Please help xxx

Nicole

You must charge them and should have done right from the get go. Afterall you have had to pay for the materials.

Another thing to look at is if you dont value your work then how can you expect your clients to. Do you do many repairs or are they really good at looking after them?

Hi Nicole,

I would start to charge for materials at the very least. Inform all your clients a week before they are due to see you and then whilst doing their nails slip into the conversation about your new price list and when your going full price. If you feel guilty about charging you could offer 10% discount for loyal clients that have been with you from the very start.

I am having my Bio assessment in a few weeks, but I've been charging from the word go. I did a few free but the rest I did as a special offer of £20 which at the moment is until the end of October but will be exending until I complete my assessment in november. I am fully insured so as long as you are insured then I'd definately charge, I couldn't afford not to. Good luck xx

I agree with all thats been said hun even thou your still training you should be charging at least for your materials!! From now on hun male sure you charge your clients:green:

It would be a good idea to "break" them in slowly. Start charging them now, a lowish price if you feel uneasy about it and make it known that once you're fully qualified it will be full price. But as previously said you could always give them a loyalty discount which will make them fell special.

It will be much harder to go straight to full price once you qualify.

hi Doll

How to you manage to not charge them.. Lots off good advise.. Break them in slowly and advise them off full price when qualified..**** luck with the exams... xx

Thanks guys for all your replys!! i have definately dug myself a lil hole by not charging from the start, problem was i wasnt sure if they would be ok at the beginning ! and i was pestering friends and family to let me practice so kind of felt that they were doin me a favour :irked:

I have a two people that come back to me with repairs ( some lifting ) but the others are great and i havent had any problems. I have got my insurance sorted so im ready to go !!

Im going to pop them all a message today to let them know that i will be charging

You may loose some people as they only want something for nothing, but you really should charge. The others will feel better about coming, its much easier for everyone when its on a paying basis.

I once had a friend say that she felt bad about not giving me a tip, but I also felt bad about not charging her the right price. So we agreed that she wouldnt tip if I charged her full price LOL

hi! your clients must be loving you doing there nails for nothing!!!! but to be honest, i would feel really bad getting my nails done by someone and not paying anything!!!!! i would insist on paying for at least the materials!!! defo start charging something now, make up a price list, and put like 20% discount for them for a certain amount of time.

good luck xxxxxxx

good thread..Im in the same pickle too. I have just fully qualified and am spending heaps on products. I feel bad about charging these people that have helped me out by letting me practice on them.

I dont know how to just say pay me or bring it up

hi!

ok well now you have practiced on them, its normal to do so i think when you just begin, but you and they know it wont be free forever, so next time you see them, i would just say, thanks very much for letting me practice on you, its helped me so much, but as you know i cant practice on people, or do it for free forever and , just make it really friendly and honest...... and say you have now made up a price list of what you will be charging, then say so from your next nail appointment with me these are the prices and for the next month only there will be a discount of 20%.... say something along those lines, im so sure everyone will understand !!! and they def wont be expecting it free for ever

hope that helps

I am in the same boat to re chargeing. I take my bio assessment in two weeks and have never charged a penny. It never crosses their minds that they should be paying anything at all and I bend over backwards to fit them in so, some can be quite demanding and difficult ringing at the last minute to re-book or turing up hours late.

So far I have only had one set of nails go wrong (one nail lifted after two and half weeks) and the client was not at all happy (ekk she is coming back today). I don't know how to go about it but I think if and when I pass, I am going to hand them a price list at their next appointment after I pass and tell them that as I have now qualified I will carry out this treatment free of charge and they can choose to have an infill or I will remove the gel if that is what they really want and they are then under no obligation to continue, but after that I will be charging but for three months they can benefit from a 25 % discount?

Lets see if I can do it, but I think as someone said if I don't value my time and work they won't and the hilarious thing is, three of my clients I pay weekly for non-beauty related services and they have no trouble taking my money.

Good luck x
