Hi everyone,

I am looking for a career as a make up artist (not theatrical). and I was wondering if anyone knows of any good courses. I live in north east england so it would either have to be there or somewhere else in the uk which provides accommodation snd maybe government funded. I have spent days looking over the internet but cant seem to find anything indepth focusing on make up application. Most of then are 1 or 2 day courses, bit i cant learn in that amount of time. I need something more substantial. Any help would be gratley appreciated. I am 22 years old.

Thanks in advance

Aimee :) xx

Hi not sure if this will be any good for you but Stockton Riverside College do VTCT L2 in fashion and photographic make-up part time 3hrs pw for 30 wks with progression on to L3 Theatrical make-up. Not sure what else is available in the area, have you tried Newcastle they have a large beauty dept.

id take a short course in make up first and build up some experince and see if you would like to do it all the time beofre spending money and time out and then you dont like it. x

thanx for the replys, i will look into it. I hav already done basic make up application in previous jobs and it is definitely something I want to pursue, its just so hard to find a decent course in the north east grrrr . I was thinking maybe london college of fashion but not sure if its difficult to get in, and maybe its too expensive to live in london off just student loans... ill jsut have too keep searching :Scared: xx

Hi Aimee, I trained with Samantha & Nicla Chapman www.fashionface.tv. They are both very experienced and very well repected make-up artists. Their courses are run over 5 days in Fulham in London and people travel from all over to attend. On my course there were girls from Plymouth, Yorkshire, Portugal and Dubai!

They cover absolutely everything from bridal, fashion, photographic, catwalk, using feathers & rhinestones etc, building a portfolio, creating campaigns and including how to make industry connections, set up your own website and where to find work.

These girls have travelled all over the world in their careers and if this is the path that you wish to follow then a week in London is no big thing! I cannot recommend this course enough.

Em x
