hi there.. now this may sound a bit stupid but i am quite new too the nail industry! i trained with creative so therefore only really know there way of doing things! i have been looking at some pre designed nail tips and coloured tips and really love some of the colours and designs but.. wat do u do with them once they start growing out? as obviously you cant replace the design/colour back to where it started?? hope you can help as wouldnt mind giving these a go?? xx

I have loads of coloured nail tips and when i have a client thats wants them (usually just to match a dress for a party or as a temporary measure) i always make them aware that 1 infill is probabily all they will get. Like you said to rebalance is quite hard as the colour is in the tip already so its not like you can backfill with the same.

I have done backfills on coloured tips but using a contrasting colour and placing it so the growth/shadow is covered, gives a nice alternative if you get the colour combo right.

The predesigned tips i have used i have disguised the growth by using fimo canes when rebalancing...choose something that will compliment what design is already there and extend the design/pattern back up the nail bed (you can also place some over the original design on the tips) you have to take the bulk right down when doing this as you need to make sure the canes are covered well but at the same time not making the nail thick & bulky.

Hope this helps you a little

thanks pips :) thats a great help! do u think i shoud include soaking off in the price for them if they are a design that i cant really do much with after one in-fill?? or do a cheaper soak off price than usual as they wont be on as long? do u do this? thanks again xx

I keep my price the same for all soak offs and only slightly discount if a new set is been applied after.
It dont matter if the enhancements are on for 1 week, 2 week or 3 week, the same method and time is involved when soaking off.

You could offer them as weekend nails or party nails and apply a thin layer of acrylic or gel and charge less than if it was a an ongoing infill/rebalance set or apply as a full set but make the client aware that after 1 infill and 3/4 weeks tops they will beging to see the growth and will need to decide if they want then jazzing up a little or removing then charge according to the work involved. (weekend/party nail prices vary from tech to tech)

Its hard to say what you need to charge as every town and city varies...
I get between £2 and £7 more on my treatments than someone i know who works 4 miles down the road from me and struggles to get clients on her already low prices.

Do a little research, make calls as a potential client and ask the price of their nails and what they offer exactly (white tips, pink & whites, coloured, patterned etc) then based on this charge accordingly. HTH

Forgot to say...if you think you could get a price that suits you & your clients for a application and removal on predesigned then why not, but dont sell yourself short!

Pre-designed tips have actually been a godsend for me, as I'm no artist. I could never come up with the nail art I've seen some of you do. One of my clients LOVES solid black tips and will have nothing else. But yeah, it isn't feasible to do a full removal then replace with new tips every 3 weeks.

So to combat that issue, I place the tips high enough so that she usually only needs them replaced every 2nd fill (but not so high it looks unnatural). I suggested once we try a black gel to "paint" her tip (and then freshen/re-do it each fill) to see what she thought. It looked good however, she still prefers the "sharpness" of the solid black tip.

So now I just replace them every 2nd fill and she's happy. I tried pink ones on myself and enjoyed them and whenever I get a color or pattern, there's a fair bit of curiosity and excitement at the salon lol.

I charge more for these because they cost me more: $50 for a new set (as opposed to $45 for a "regular" French gel mani).

The only other issue I have found with these is that they sometimes don't "fit" as well as regular prosthetic, but that could be just the brand I'm using.

I'm actually off today to get some new colors and patterns.:)

If you'd like to see them, I've made an album of my work.
