Hi guys just wondered if anybody has any experience with very premature baby's my best friend just gave birth to her bby boy yesterday at 25+5days he's 2lb and just about breathing on his own so a good size for his age and so far doing very well x

I don't have much experience (my daughter was born at 36 weeks) but I am 25+6 days pregnant today. Just wanted to wish your friend all the luck in the world with her son, keep everything crossed and I really hope everything turns out ok. 2lb is a really good weight for that age and the fact he's breathing on his own is amazing. Keep us posted xxx

One of my boys was 2lbs7oz, its very scary having a baby that tiny! I have to say that the nurses and technology these days are brilliant, I hope baby and mum are doing ok.

Both my children were prem and weighed 3lb that was 14yrs ago i also have three friends whom all gave birth very early one at 25 weeks weighing 1lb 4 she is doing very well although very small and needs growth hormones. Another again at 25 weeks and weighed just under 2lb she needed oxygen for her first year but apart from that no problems what so ever. My other friend had her little boy at 24 weeks sadly he was born sleeping. Doctors can do amazing these days and the fact you say baby is doing very well and nearly breathing alone is amazing. They usually stay in hospital til around their due date or once they are a certain weight x

Thanks for all your replies they've just taken his ventilator out so he can breath on his own I guess we'll see how well he does... Shes expressing so he's having her milk which is great it's just a waiting game I guess but good to hear other people's stories/experiences it will keep her spirits up. The dr's nurses and midwifes have been fantastic and looked After her really well he's definitely in good hands so iv everything crossed for them both x

My last baby girl was 26+1 born . She is now 10 and has no difficulties at all . It's amazing what they can do nowadays . Good luck to your friend and new little one x

I have 2 friends who had very prem babies, twins born at 25wks (both under 2lb but one very sadly didn't make it) and another quite recently, both made incredible progress. The one of twins is 11 now and doing perfectly fine, the other is 5 months and he did have a few minor set backs when he developed an infection but staff were on it quickly and he's doing beautifully.
It can seem like a really long road ahead but with technology these days and such awesome nurses and doctors babies born early have a really good chance of survival. All the best to your friend, sounds like her little one is strong x

I have little girl who will be two in 4wks. She was born at 31 weeks and weighed 3lbs, she had help with her breathing for about a week and after that was doing ok on her own, they let her home after 6 weeks in hospital as was breathing and feeding ok and putting on weight. We still go for hospital checks but everytime we go she is doing well and doing most things for her age, we've been lucky we've had no problems with her and is been doing well. Good luck to your friend and baby, hope baby gets home soon and does well:)xx

Good luck to your friend and baby hope they are ok xx

Thanks just got home... So exhausting but he's doing very well been off his ventilator all day n no sign of him needing to go back on yet.. It's hard wanting to know the answers when there isn't any just got to take it day by day. She doesn't have parents just a brother n partners family so I try fill the gap so she has support x

If she needs any support with breastfeeding, contact la leche league. This is the area they specialise in, especially with prem babies.

They will offer support where others will just offer the bottle.

Vic x
