hi all
just 1 little thing
a guest posted that some of their clients didn't like the smell of the solar range of products.
i find that this is a smell that u either love or hate!
that is why i use both the solar manicure & solar butter & also the spa manicure range that has citrus based ingredients.
i personally like both, but if i had to jump 1 way or the other i would plump 4 the citrus spamanicure products.
i tend to go for citrus based perfumes, i find them more uplifting.
the solar range also increases my appitite!
as for the prescriptive issue;
i was 1 of the original accounts of jessica (mainly because the rep was 1 of my college buddies!)
that was in 1990!
i enjoyed the range, & found the products successful.
however, as a salon owner with employees, i found we had considerable wastage, due to the vast no. of products on offer, & the products were always being updated (a good sign of a company that is staying up with technology)
i decided to try the cnd range of natural nail products about 3 yrs ago.
i will admit i was worried.
how could just 4 products ( sticky, toughen-up, super shiney & speedy) compete with the full "prescriptive" range that my staff & clients were used to?
i trialed the products exclusively for 4 months, & not 1 client noticed a fall in the condition of there nails.
the only thing i would say in favour of a fuller prescriptive range is that it depends on who is using it & selling it's ethos.
in my eyes, if it's not broken, why mend it?
on the same tack, i used to b a dermalogica junkie!
loads of products, full prescriptive range.
however, i'm now looking at the new nimue range of skincare for similar reasons.
if the technology behind the products is created & researched by the most renowned scientists in the world, then it's even better if the product range is simple but EFFECTIVE.
i fully trust that if there was a better base coat to b had than toughen-up then doug schoon would know about it!
also the pioneer behind nimue is a world renound cosmeceutical chemist, & the range looks to speak for itself (i will let u know what i think of it)
to summerise... jessica & dermalogica are companies i have the utmost respect for, they also believe in decent post-graduate training.
however, as a salon owner, i've discovered that a simple yet effective product range suits me, my staff & my clients.

I certainly never let my clients dictate to me what I should or should not use in the salon .. I chose the top of the range products that would do the JOB .

Geeg, I find this comment a little bizzare. :?:
I know that sometimes clients have a tendency not to "know what's best for them", but at the end of the day, they are the people we are trying to please. Obviously i want to choose what i consider to be the best products for my clients, but if they all hate the products its a bit pointless. We'll end up sitting alone in our salons doing our own nails with our lovely products!

Hi all

I think the answer is both - you use the best products from the best ranges. Here's how....

I used to have poop for nails and then my buddie told me about nailtiques - i used it I loved it, after having wasted hundreds of quids on rubbish retail products i was won over. So then I became and nail tech and beauty therapist and open my own salon - of course I use nailtiques and I highly recomend it............ but then I discovered solar oil and personally I think this is better than oil therapy from nailtiques range, but oil therapy is still a good product.

I put it to my clients like this

No1 solar oil - this is the best
No2 oil therapy - this is very good
No3 other pro ranges - these are ok
No4 retail range - not as good as any of the above

I then ask client what they want - 9/10 say No1 - (the other person just a cheap skate - only kiddding!!!)

This way you are giving your client what THEY want and what you know is best

p.s. my buddie now uses nailtiques no1 formula and solar oil she has beautiful nails

all just my opinion you understand - thanks for listening

Well my comment wasn't meant to be bizzare, and I do stand by it. You are an holistic therapist. Do you let your clients choose the perscriptions you use to treat them? You are the expert not them and as the expert, you make the choices.

Firstly not ALL the clients are going to hate a top of the range branded popular line or it wouldn't be a top of the range branded line in the first place. Clients are LED by what the technician thinks.

Also I consider myself a nail specialist/expert much better qualified than the general public to choose what I think is best for their needs. How can that fail to please?

Lastly I know my product lines inside and out. I know how they work, what they are made of and most importantly HOW they benefit the client and I pass this information on to them. Very few people would fail to be persuaded by a specialist who knows his/her stuff.

Eveyone has their own philosophy behind their own business and if it works for you then more power to ya! Mine worked for me (maybe I am a control freak!).

Hi ya

Just looked into your thread, and wanted to let you know that I am currently using Nailtiques on my own hands and am experiencing fab results. I have decided to take on range in my salon. Best thing about Nailtiques is that it is reletively easy to use. Not too many different treatments. Apparently there is also a special range for after extention care, I've been told. The hand and nail cream is so yummy smelling and I have never had a complaint from the friends and family I have been testing it out on. Even men seem to like it. One downside is the pakaging I must admit, however, you can not judge a book by its cover. To order go to Grafton International. Sorry don't have their number to hand, they are based in shenstone I think.

Take it easy
Gina

I use Nailtiques and have had great results with it. The cuticle and skin gel and hand cream are very popular. I have found that some clients tend to get a bit lazy with home care and regular manicures once they have fabulous talons, so once they neglect them the problems start all over again.

I totally agree i am a hair stylist and beauty therapist as well as a nail tech and in all parts of my "jobs" I asess my clients needs and tell her what i recommend , I have very rarely had a client go against my advice. I am a proffesional, they know that and they trust me and my judgement implicitly. I would also say that a very small % of my clients dont like the solar smell but 98% love it and buy.

Fair enough, i do see what you mean, about being the one with all the knowlege, and obviously being best placed to decide on the best course of treatment. I guess my philosophy is a little different from yours. For me it must be a partnership between the client and therapist, hopefully they will follow your advice, but if this is not possible, then this must be worked around.
For example, i had a client who i felt would be best treated with Aromatherapy Massage for her arthritic problems, but she had issues with getting undressed, so she had Reflexology instead. It wasn't the perfect treatment for her, but it was still good.
You did make me smile with the control freak comment tho'...
