I was talking to a hairdresser today who was explaining to me that she was going to get botox. She is 21!!! She says she has lines on her forehead, and also that if she gets a little now, it will stop her making as deep expressions with her forehead so preventing the wrinkles occurring in the first place, prevention better than cure kinda thing.

Im 24, and I just wondered what your thoughts on this was? Do you think there is some logic in prevetative botox or its scary young girls like us are thinking about this already!! A lovely woman comes into my salon to do botox and she told me to come back when im 30!

The last time i checked that botox did not prenvent aging there is no proof... , i had heard this years ago thou and it did make sence but iv heard lots of things in tv and magazines to say it dose not prevent but things change every 5 minutes....... .

Quite a few of my friends have had botox, one being 21 and others being my age 23/24.

At first I thought they were mad for having it so young...... but the more the subject gets brought up, the more I consider having it done!

Although I dont think it 'prevents' lines and wrinkles occuring, it will help the appearance of any existing lines..... I have quite prominent frown lines on my forehead which I hate, so I am looking in to booking a consultation for having botox.

Someone also said to me that once you start having it, you'll have to keep up with it... Do I really want to start spending that amount of money on my face so young?!?!

Hi
i'm 30 and a few of my friends have botox, i really probably should get it myself as i do have forehead lines and a few around my eyes, although i dont think i have as many as i should. For now i use the likes of instant eyelift if i feel i look really awful but it doesnt bother me much (it should cos i'm single haha)

the thing is i notice my friends look a bit plastic faced, i know one gets too much of it! plus they panic after a couple of months thinking they need it again when, in my opinion their faces are only starting to look kinda normal.

I think if you eat well, take fish oils, lots of water and use a good moisturiser (even something like skin doctors relaxaderm) you will be fine for a good few years, plus you will save money

Pamx

I had botox last year (at 28)
I had a crease between my eyebrows which I had treated and also I had injections all over my forehead for the tiny wrinkles.

Although you couldn't actually really see the tiny wrinkles, my face was noticably smoother afterwards. all of my forehead skin looked clearer and i just looked fresher.

I'd definatley have it again and i won't be waiting for the wrinkles to set.
If you have fine lines then yes I'd have it but to spend £££'s "just in case" seems a little silly. But then again when i was 21 I didnt even consider what i'd look like in the future!

Ye in response to miss petite, my thoughts were, I thought the expressions we make with our face are one of the main causes of wrinkles, i.e frowning, laughter lines etc, so my thoughts were, if you got botox early 20's, (before most expressions lines have occurred) the botox would relax your muscles slightly, preventing you from making too harsh frowns etc (if that makes sense?) thus preventing such wrinkles occuring of making them not as deep as would have been if not had botox? as expressions would be deeper and muscles would be able to move better? god im confusing myself!! I would just love it if a little now would prevent as bad wrinkles in the future, but yes i agree with tantrum, i think you can go too far!! thanks to all other replies its an interesting one isnt it!!!

I use to think that too but iv heard more them one doctor on the tv say otherwise. it does make sence what your saying but i think we will have to wait about 20 years for the long term effects to be proven.

Oh this thread is making me paranoid now, im wonderin should i get it myself, was just talkin to my friend about it and he said hey i'll ring and get you a discount (he was meant to say, no Pam you dont need it)
well i think i'll pick up some relaxaderm tomorrow and try put botox off for another while..

I know i'm going to look like Dot Cotton when i'm old i may as well accept it:lol::lol:

I don't think anyone should run out and get it "Just in Case".
I had a crease between my eyebrows (i frown when i concentrate :irked:) and after a while it was always there, even first thing in the morning.
One shot of botox and it was gone completely after a couple of weeks.
Unless it's a really deep crease then when you have botox they will go so why worry about doing it before?

If you start to get lines that have settled then go for it. Until then i'd spend it on shoes!

Kind of on the right track. Yes, research now suggests Botox IS a preventative measure and can prevent facial lines from deepening. Botox is used to treat lines formed by muscular movement (dynamic lines), and so, if these lines are unable to form (or deepen) due to the action of Botulinum type A, over the longer term this will naturally have an effect on the depth of the line.

Personally, I do not treat patients as young as 21 as I do not consider it ethical, for a whole host of reasons.

Mostly recommended as a prevenatative measure in your 30s. 21 is way too young.
