I have just finished my gel nails course and got my certificate. :)I have done a few close family members nails for free, for practise while i was training...I have a few friends that would like their nails done but I think i should get a price structure in place....What do you think of the below? I am going to keep these prices in place until the end of the year

Gel Nails Full set - £15.00
Gel Nails Infills - £7.50
Mini Manicure (File and polish) - £5.00

Your prices seem ok for practice purposes to cover your costs so long as you make it clear to everyone who uses your service that your prices WILL increase....be firm!! There are many of us that introduced lower prices initally to get us going only to find it hard when certain 'friends' couldn't understand that the price increase also applied to them!!

good luck with your new venture into the world of nails...be sure to do a search on here for various gel and nail related threads, you'll find literally thousnds of threads which will help you emensley (sp?)

xx

Thanks Jenny....I will make sure they know that prices will go up end of the year!!

Yes i agree. I do think that the prices are a bit too cheap, but if your still practicing and not confident with them, then keep them that price. When your confident enough, and feel that your doing really well, put the price up. But only be a few pounds or something, cos otherwise clients will complain if you put it up too much!
Hope that you work out well

Even when training i think its important to charge something...even if its just to cover your products. Thing is its hard to go from doing freebies to charging...you feel quward...they feel misslead...it just gets messy. Charge from day 1....always...especially for breakages....reason being...if they know they can get a nail repaired for nothing where is the incentive to look after them.

I do my mums nails for nothing and that is all...everyone else pays. I wouldn't expect my friends to go to work...use all their own stuff and do it all for nothing, and neither should they.

You will also feel more appreciated when earning something from it...as soon as you see some money come in you will see it as a real job.

Thanks Ladies.....I do my mums for free since she help fund my course and during training i did friends for free as it was good practise for me. I feel happy enough with the prices just now, and have a few bookings in the next few weeks already, and hopefully this will continue!! xx:)

A good place to start is to research your local area and find out who your competion are, if you are mobile or work from home you can nearly always undercut the local salons but still provide a excellent standard of work as they have more overheads then you. Best to find out who is working locally and the prices they charge. I found that prices varied depending on where you live. In St Albans, Radlett and Harpenden you wouldn't get a set of nails for under £40.00 unless you went to the local nail drill shop they are £28.00 plus an infection.... not saying they are all like that but that's what I got the last time I went. Which is why I decided to go to college. Good luck though !
