I have an Epson Stylus DX6000 printer and it is just eating up the printing cartridges and costing me a small fortune. I am sure the cartridges used to last longer. If I run out of one colour, the printer won't just print in black and white. Ironically, the black ink seems to be the colour that lasts the longest.

Can anyone help - I can't afford to keep this up?:irked:

How long have you had the printer? Have you run any diagnostics on it? Could it be that the jets are getting clogged up making the printer think the ink is running low?
Where are you buying your cartridges from? I use this site which was certainly the cheapest for my particular printer (Lexmark 4 in 1 jobbie)
Good luck!

Christine, it might be worth, in the long run, changing your printer or at least going on to compatible cartridges.

I have always used Canon printers and I specifically buy one with separate tanks so if the blue runs out, all I change is the blue.

They do say that using compatible cartridges in some way damages the printer but then the cost saving involved means you can afford to replace the printer after a few years.

Hope that makes sense.

There are loads of cartridge places online - the Canon originals are about £11 each where the compatibles are about £4, or less.

Thanks for your help. That link is helpfull too as they are cheaper than elsewhere I've come across.

Fi - My printer does take separate colour cartridges but if say the blue runs out it doesn't let me print at all, even if I want black and white.

I will need to invest in a better printer but I don't have the cash at the moment.

It is so annoying.:irked:

this is the same as my epsom printer christine - annoying huh !

i get my cartridges from printer cartridge direct - they always run discounts etc so i usually bulk up - not sure how they compare with the other suggested site - may be worth a look though babe

my printer has just conked out i have lots of cartridges - im toying with getting another epson because of that or going with another brand ... not sure

Go to a computer fair!!! I was also getting fed up of the cost of ink. The man there told me that cannon are getting tighter and tighter about the amount of ink they are actually putting in there. He decided to cut one open and found it full up to only a quarter of the way! I now get the copied ones that are not made by cannon for around 50p each and i think they last a hell of a lot longer. Also hun,if you look on the internet you will get them a lot cheaper if you buy them in bulk

I use what's called a CISS (continuous ink system) , they are large tanks with hoses that feed into cartridges .........search ebay for your model and CISS, they last for ever, are easy to install and refill
