Hi,
I have a problem with a new client. She came to me with nails that a salon had overfiled badly. They used an electric file and have left dark pink ridges in the nail(she has also been picking at her nails to remove the acrylics that she'd been getting before.the index finger and the mid fingers of both hands have virtually no side wals as they have been broken through week ness (almost like a nail bitters-if you get my drift)the centre of the nail though is just very short.
I done a manicure and thoughly preped nails- Applied tips and used brissa gel. Nails were short length due to her work and when finished looked lovely.
The following day she called to say a nail had broken and so i was able to call in and sort it.when i got there she had two nails off.
I removed traces of gel, preped reaplyed new tips(New make-Acually ezflow white tips so good make) and again brissa gel.
She was cross that theyd broken so soon and wanted to know why as her acyrlics she had befor were fine for 2weeks.
I had used new white tips on her and had first tryed them on myself.mine are till on and never broke(3weeks ago). The white tips are more flexable than usual. But i used the new ezflow just to make shure theat it was not the problem.
I saw her today and she showed me that whole hand (left hand)nails just fell off She said.
I'm confused- what could i have done wrong? The other hand are fine.My nails have the same tips and are fine. She said they must be too thin....
but i purposly built the apex up.
What should i offer her....a manicure and remove the other hand...
re-apply the set again?(but have a feeling what ever i do she'l say they fell off again) or refund? or what? Please may you advise... thank you X:)

Well if she had so terrible nails as you describe, then it'll take a H***** of a lot to keep them on. Nails that thin is to flexible for any material, and deffinately to flexible to add lenght to, and the surface is almost impossible to adhere to...

Unfortunately it sounds like she has had MMA as this is almost the only product that can sit on nails like that, and she will feel a huge difference in the strength, as MMA is stronger, but so strong it'll rip and destroy your nail before it cracks itself...

I would explain to her that the enhancement is no stronger than the foundation it's build upon, and in this case, until new healthy nails grows out, I would recomend NNO only. Preferably only offer manicures but if she insist on enhancing just NNO's.

Maby someone more expreienced with htesekind of nails can give an other option, but whatever you do don't refund or do freebie., YOU havn't done anything wrong!

Oh I expect you are trained right? Your profile doesn't say much...

thanks for your advice i think i agree with your comments and if any one has any thing else to add or more info or advice please reply....Always keen to find out more....thanks lots.

You are very welcome
I'll watch this too, as I have noticed an increase in the number of people whos nails are trashed like what you have described....

The better condition of the natural nails the better the overlays/enhancements will adhere....think of a house...if the foundations are bad the house wont be great..:)

I know when i have tried to overlay damaged nails the product sometimes just pops off the nail plate.

What i would do is explain this to her...give her the choice....she either has them done (no freebies or discount) and perseveres until the damage nail has grown out or she doesn't.

You can only work with what you have in front of you, consultation cards are great for this purpose...if gives you the chance to ***** the nails...and go over with the client any concerns you might have...then get them to sign it.

There can be no comeback to you then.

You might find that using white tips could be your problem.
I was taught to use Clear tips.... and to avoid using white tips with Gel as the opaque tip doesn't allow the UV light to effectively cure the underside of the free edge - therefore compromising the strength of the enhancement.

I know that you are wearing the same tips (not sure if you're wearing them with L&P or Gel), however because you are wearing the same tips is not to say that you will both experience the same problems.

You mentioned the existing damage to your clients nails. This would already contribute to possible service breakdown - so coupled with the use of white tips (under cured Gel) I think we might have it sussed.

Hope this helps

hi
thanks to all for your help and honest advice. It really helps to get other peoples thoughts on the subject.
I had never heard that white tips can be troublesome...any one hear this? .......love to know if you have......
I normally do the whites myself but it was the clients choice.I will have to rethink the white tips though for another time....
I did have gel on mine too and not L&P.
So once again thanks for assistance and let me know about the white tips...........thank you.X:lol:

Another thing to consider is that you mentioned that this client has removed nails before by picking them off. The chances are therefore good that if the nails lifted due to the poor condition of the nailplate - she then helped them all the way off herself. Nails do not generally 'just fall off' so bear that in mind when problem solving :)

Hi Gelly. I have to disagree with your statement about using white tips. I have use white tips for gel french enhancements and have never had an issue with the product not curing all the way. The only time I have had an issue with product not curing on the underside of the free edge is when I use an opaque nail form when sculpting as opposed to using a clear form.

I may be just confused by your wording as when using a white tip there is no product to cure on the underside of the free edge.

Would you mind clarifying for me? Thank you!
Melanie
