I started getting dandruff about 2 years ago for no reason and it's driving me mad :irked:

I have dried various over the counter anti-dandruff shampoos as well as some pharmacy shampoos for the specific problem and nothing seems to help. I try to minimise my hair washing to twice a week and also take a hair and nail supplement. I also seem to suffer from severe hair loss when I wash and brush my hair, and consequently, my hair has become very thin.

I also have very dry, frizzy, fly-away hair, which is coloured and nothing seems to tame it.

Are there any S&C that you could recommend that might be able to tackle all of the above problems ?

Would it be worthwhile seeing a Tricologist perhaps ?

Any advice / suggestions would be much appreciated.

I have had the same problem for 2 years... finally had enough and went to see a scalp specialist... it was the most basic of problems.. my scalp is sensitive to the silicones that is in MOST shampoos (including a majority of the danduff ones!) so I have switched to THURSDAY PLANTATION tea tree anti dandruff shampoo and I can honestly say.. not a flake, no itchy scalp, nothing! I am truely amazed and I have only been using it 2 weeks, I saw a huge improvement after just one wash thou... and I am finding i dont need to use any conditioner as the tea tree oil is enough to keep it soft and smooth.

I have struggled with a dry scalp for years and had also tried lots of anti dandruff treatments which acyually made the condition worse cause of all the chemiclas in them.

I now use MOP (Modern Organic Products) and my scalp and hair has never been better. I have quite thick hair so use the C System Hydrating shampoo & conditioner and the ingredients are all natural too but is salon grade and gives fantastic results :green:

Another one is Nioxin . You need to look for more"organic" based shampoos.
I have never seen a OTC "dandruff" shampoo that actually worked.

Thanks for all your comments.

I did a search last night for a Tricologist and came across Philip Kingsley. Apparently, he is a big name in the world of Tricologists.

He also does a range of S&C and scalp treatments which are "reasonably" priced. I did a search for reviews on his products and everyone that wrote a review said they were happy with the products.

Is anyone familiar with his products and what do you think ?

they sell that kingsley stuff on QVC im sure.

I like polytar, but the concentrate one i think it is,in a white bottle instead of brown.

and conditioner, the BEST ive used yet, Osmo, hair repair mask. My hair is course and frizzy and that tames it really well, it actualy turns it silky soft!!

Hi,

I've just had a look at the MOP products and they sound really good as well.

There are so many S&C to choose from I'm at a total loss !! Which would you recommend for long, thin, dry, fly-away, problem scalp hair ?

just a Dr at the local clinc, I was chatting to the nurse about my hair prob when I was last there and she said come back and see Dr such and such... so I did and with one look he confirmed it was dandruff and not any of the other scalp issues, he asked what shampoos I was using, and pretty much said well theres your problem, sensitivity to silicone and a few of the other harsh chemicals in shampoo (he says its a very common thing now days to become over sensitive to things what with all the crap, and chemicals we put on and into our bodys)... he suggested to go as natural as possible with regards to shampoo and in partucular get one with Manuka or Tea Tree oil as it has natural anti-bacterial propertys.. so thats basically all I did, switched to a natural shampoo with tea tree oil in it.

I also have natrually frizzy flyaway hair... its very thin hair but I have alot of it (if that makes sense) and all thou after a wash it is a bit 'fluffy' I just run some water thru it with my fingers and it lies down nice and flat and I have no flyaways - which is a bonus as I try not to use much hair product as that irritates my scalp also.
