Hello fellow nail geeks,

I have started having problems with my clients nails - either overlays (clear or french) or sculptures not staying on. They are starting to lift after a couple of days. I have been using biosculpture for the last 3 years and had no problems - certainly not with overlays - just the usual with tips breaking - hence have stopped using tips and moved to sculptures.

On questioning the clients I can find no reason for the lifting - ie not on any medication, looking after them etc. I spend ages doing the nail prep, am hygienic and they are continuing to lift despite not touching the cuticles with the gel. I rememeber BS saying the gels do not go off - do you agree? Wondering it its my lights but dont do many nails - do beauty mainly. Have rung BS and not much help.

I am really struggling with this whole gel nail thing and dont want to give up having spent so much on it all. I would be so so grateful for any advice.
Many thanks,
Nina:irked:

Have you checked that your bulbs in your lamp are in full working order? As i can remember a month or so ago (i'm sure it was calgel) sent an email about how to check your bulbs and the effects it can have when they aren't working to their full potential...Just an idea:idea:

1. Try changing your bulbs to see any changes.

2. Is this a new client? It is too soft for some clients who are too harsh on their nails. I had one client just like that.

3. Which gels are you using at each step? Which prep products and how do you use them? Tell us your step by step and we can see what we do different.

4. How long have you had each gel pot although I dont think that would be a problem.

Ah thanks for your help ladies and nice to see you in your photos! Yes it could be the bulbs and will speak to BS as to how t check this. I do the following:
1. sanitize etc, file free edge, push cuticles back. I do not file the nail surface.
2. one layer of clear, white free edge, second layer clear, s gel and top coat. Must admit I dont always do the full 4 mins for the last layer of s gel.
3.for sculpting = do the nail prep as above, put on form, apply sculpt gel to entire nail and onto form, white the free edge, s- gel and build arch etc, top coat.

I have only recently done the sculpting course so am doing that as we were taught. Have spoken to some of my ladies today - some have stayed on 3 weeks or more, some 10 days and 2 only a couple of days.

Really appreciate your help and advice,
Thanks a lot and merry Christmas xxxx:smack:

Hi, are you actually getting lifting or peeling? I dont use clear gel as a base but either sculpting gel or sealer gel instead. Would 3 laters of gel be better than 2 for the clients who are experiencing the lifting? As said before, check your bulbs. You can use it up to 500 hours then it needs to be changed. Cure for the correct amount of time also!

They could be exposing the gel to harsh chemicals or certain types of lotions that break down the gel which can cause lifting problems or the gel going rubbery which makes it easy to peel off if they are a picker.

unless i'm mis-reading your post, I would try a lot more thorough prep .. so ..

apply cuticle remover (i use and like bio or CND),
use metal cuticle tool to remove ALL non-living tissue from whole of nail plate..
thoroughly cleanse nail plate,
santitise/dehydrate with dual cleanser,
ensure nail is totally squeaky clean and dry.
i personally also use a gentle buffer to take the shine off the nail, as it evens out the nail surface, and provides a better surface for gel to adhere to.

Hope this helps xx
