Hi

I've just been round to a friend from work and done a full set of overlays using star nail gel. But the gel keeps shrinking around the cuticle and however thinly I put on the gel it seems to end up thick around this area and it looks crap. Its happen to me before and I don't know actually what I'm doing wrong?

I've not qualified yet and this is only my second set of overlays. I do charge a small fee for just covering my costs on materials and petrol...should I not be charging anything?

Anyway I don't think she was best please with the end result. Bcoz firstly the gel had shrunk and I had a nightmare with trying to do a french polish as the polish was runny. I used OPI - Alpine Snow. So I had to ditch that I use a light shimmer colour by OPI...which she said she like but I'm not sure if she was just being polite.

If I could get more people to practice on I would get better..but I haven't done anything for three months and I'm a bit rusty.

Anyway its knock my confidence and I feel like chucking the towel in and giving up altogether.

Any advice would be welcome geeks.

Its also making me look like I can't do it properly and

I dont know a deal about gel but im sure someone else can advise you on here. Have you got a nail trainer that you can practice on...? i dont know what id do without mine cos i dont feel confident to put l & p on anyone just yet. I will give my friends manicures so i can practice but i do get annoyed sometimes cos even tho they know im not qualified and i just want to practice...they still expect their nails to be perfect..and for me not to take too long, etc and yeah you should charge to cover your products itsonly fair x

Yeh I know want you mean about friends still expecting their nails to be perfect. I get my overlays done by a local salon and I think when they see mine...they expect me to come up with the same standard. But I'm still practicing and learning at the end of the day and their not going to be to the same standard.

Do you find you get a lot of offers from friends that are willing to let you practice on them? As I don't like pesting friends for their time, but I am struggling to find people to practice on as people agree and then let me down.

But yes I have got a nail trainer, which is great...so I'll have to just keep practice on that.

If there are any geeks out their in the nottingham area willing to give up sometime for me to practice on them, please reply to this thread
