the skin around my nails seems to suffer quite a lot when i remove my gels, so i just tried this, and it worked brilliantly. sorry if you're all doing this already, but nobody told me about it!
use a cotton bud to smear vaseline all around the cuticle, nail walls and behind the free edge.
put a small piece of dry cotton wool directly on to the nail - the vaseline keeps it in place.
hold the finger over a small glass bowl & use a pipette to drop just the right amount of acetone on the cotton wool over the nail.
wrap in foil - then wrap all in warm towel as usual.
added advantage is no wasted acetone to dispose of.

Good idea, it's very dehydrating acetone.

I rub solar oil around my clients skin around the nail, this helps too.

Professional Product remover does not make the skin go white around the nails which is why as a professionaol I use it rather than pure Acetone.

Your trick does work and many do it ... but no harm reiterating the point again.

yep product remover is soooo much kinder than acetone, it dosent dry the skin and whereas i react severely to acetone, i harldy suffer at all with product remover, but i will try the vaseline or solar oil thing as well next time, sounds really nice way of doing it,

xxxx

When I had run out of product remover once I had to rush to the wholesaler and buy some acetone.
Despite putting solar oil on my clients fingers she said the acetone stung, admittedly she is a lady of more mature years and my Mum (79) has the same problem.
I only use product remover now:)

Yep, its product remover for me too!

One tip I was given that works for me is this: I get the designer nails one, which is not quite as good in quality (in my opinion) as the CND one, but it is cheaper to buy. If you use the Designer nails one, add a few drops of solar oil to the bowl, it really does make a difference.

i've only just finished my course (which cost a lot of money) and done my exams - this is a second career and change of direction for me, and i was always extremely professional in my previous career.

i'm a little upset to find that my expensive course taught me to use acetone, and that already i am being unprofessional by doing so.

although i still think whatever chemicals are in professional product removers are probably best kept off the skin if at all possible, so i still like my vaseline idea.

hey hun, i dont think its unprofessional to use acetone, plenty of techs do, its just kinder to the skin and nails to use product remover, and as i said even though i do use product remover, i still really like the vaseline/solar oil idea and i will deffo use this in future hun, so thanks for the tip
