hi

i have a client, she has been coming to me and for the last few weeks i realized that her nail plate was not as clear as it should be. So i discussed this with her, told her we would file down all her gel and see what was up! So when i got down to the natural nail, d nail plate was foggy, with white marking (but not from filing) all up d nail plate,to the free edge!
After a bit i started asking her a few questions and she informs me she suffers from psoriasis for years..... could it be? i have seen really bad stage of psoriasis in nails before, but this does not look bad!

Advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Sounds like psoriasis to me.. although I would ask her to check with her doctor before doing any more nail treatments.

There would usually be some pitting on the nail with Onycolysis , so if it is that, I would make sure her nails are kept short.

Yes, psoriasis affects the nails in diferent ways. Sometime it becomes whitish and flacky, sometimes it pits and has a yellowish/greenish apearence. Sometimes is more serious and can even hurt, sometimes is just like having a stain on your nails.
If it afects most of the nails i usually don't apply. If it is just one or two and not to bad, usually there is not problem as long as we advise client to watch them for any problems.

I have just be-grudgingly done my best mates nails today & she suffers terribly from Psoriasis, her Nails dont hurt at all but they are sooo yellow & pitted, i have avoided doing them for so long & finally gave in after much arm bending!! I tried applying NSI Pink Masque & hated it so soaked it off & applied on request just ur average L&P, i absolutely hated it!! Although she liked it, so i convinced her to have some NailArt on top to try & disguise it a bit & that did help, so any ideas on anything else i could use would be most grateful cos i have the feeling she's gonna want these to be maintained!! hmph (luv her t bits but hated results) x

Why begrugingly?? Isn't that what we are here for to help transform nails like these and give people back some pride in their looks and self confidence?

Some of the most satisfying moments of my career have been when I have helped people with real nail problems.

The last thing I would ever recommend to a person like this is nail art. What is wrong with straight forward polish to disguise? I'm beginning to think that techs have lost the art of polishing nails to achieve different effects. So much you can do with polish.

Hello there I've got a very special client who has severe psoriosis under all her toe nails and feet (My MUM).
I'd suggest a clear overlay if they're badly pitted and a gorgeous shade of polish.
This will help eliminate the bumpy look and give a smooth surface and also easy maintenance with just clear fills! Job done - polish lasts well on overlays so Bobs your uncle I reckon she'll be well pleased!
good luck and let me know how you get on
Bestest wishes Jayneym x

I'm not a nail tech but I have a regular client with psoriasis in her nails and I'm wondering what I can do to help, in terms of products that will improve the condition. Any ideas?

Nothing will improve the psoriasis condition but there are lots of things that can help with the look of the nails; the absolute best one being enhancements.

If you dont do nails at all then, depending on the severity, a good ridge filler such as CND Ridge Out plus polish and of course daily use of CND Solar Oil which will combat dryness of the surrounding skin.

A perfect start would be an Almond Spa Manicure treatment from CND. It is luxurious and beneficial.

Thanks Geeg
I do the CND spa mani currently, and I've sold her some solar balm which she says is certainly helping the skin around her nails. Interestingly her nails had always been fine until she had Bioscultpure on them...
The Almond spa mani - does it differ wildly in its use from the Citrus Spa one?
Can you use Ridge Out on its own or does it need a polish over the top?

Use of Solar Balm will help as it is Solar Ol in another format.

To your 2nd point, she either has psoriasis or nail plate damage; which is it? Using Calgel would have caused neither of these conditions although the technician may have caused nail damage or even the client herself if she improperly removed the enhancements.

To your 3rd point. Spa Manicure is wonderful and yes it is completely different to the Almond Spa manicure. Different; not better or worse but definitely different in concept and in products.

Finally, Ridge Out would not be good used on it's own .... it is a base coat and not designed to stand up to the daily wear and tear of an enamel polish.

She says her consultant has said it was psoriasis and that she may also have a sensitivity to whatever chemicals are in Calgel/Biosculpture. From what I've read I reckon that it was just coincidence. I do like the look of the Almond Spa mani - do you think it would be more appropriate for this client?
I was also thinking of Solar Butter for her at night.
Thanks for the info re Ridge Out - can she use it with Super Shiney over the top? She doesn't want to draw attention to her nails any more than she has to. She's a QC so waves her arms about a lot in court (so she tells me!)
Would regular manis actually help, do you think?

Regular manicures are designed to cleanse, exfoliate and moisturise the skin and nails so, yes, manicures will help with those things. Will regular manicures imporove the psoriasis? No. Psoriasis is psoriasis which is an over gorwth of skin and, no, manicures will not change that condition but they will help to allieviate the dryness associated with it and improve the appearance of the skin.

CND natural nail care products are not 'pretty' cosmetics. They are highly researched and are efficacious (which means they WORK).

Yes she can wear A top coat over the Ridge Out. There are lots of pretty soft collours available form CND that will enhance but not draw attention to the natural nails. The nail glosses are perfect for the look she wants.

Indeed they do! Which is why I chose CND over the myriad other brands out there.

Forgive my ignorance, Geeg, do these form part of the main range of CND enamels? Or are these the Plexi Pops?

Thanks for the info!

Sorry for not being clear .. they are indeed the Plexi Pops .... I love all of these and rarely wear anything else.

I'll just share a bit of info regarding the quality of CND enamels.

Yesterday I found a half empty bottle of enamel, remembering I bought it in Düsseldorf about 10 or 11 years ago. Tried it on, and it's still perfect! Just like new, it's fantastic.
I compared it to another brand (more expensive) which I have had for maybe 8 or 9 month, and maybe used once or twice (remember the half full CND one) and this was impossible to paint with already going thick....

Just LURVE quality like that..... So if client's are afraid to buy polish, explain the quality that means you don't have to use up one color before bying a new..... Which is perfect for a lady like above mentioned, that needs covering up, and maybe would like to change to other subtle colors...

Thank you for all your replies ! x
