I have been using dermalogica for about a year now, and i can't say my skin has changed in this time. Last year i had extremely dry flaky skin on my forehead, nose and chin and spotty cheeks, i was told at the time to use speacial cleansing gel, multi active and active moist, it worked for my spots they only came in the odd pustule but my dry skin was unbearable, so about 5 months ago i changed to essential cleansing, multi active, intensive moisture balance, with skin hydrating booster and gentle cream exfoliant, my dry skin seems a little better, but still tight and a bit shiny, but now my spots are coming back too, i have very dark hair and just recently my parner asked me if i was suffering from dandruff (very embarassing)
plzz help me with your expertise, does anyone know of any quality but reasonable priced products for my skin, if needed i am willing to change products . Many thanks

I have been working with Dermalogica for 5 years now and think the reason you're having trouble is your therapist is only treating one issue at a time. I would stick to the essential cleanse, but try the active moist in the oily areas and then (it's a bit more expensive than the intesive moisture balance but worked sooooo good for my mother's dry skin) use super rich repair just in the really dry areas. I would also use a different exfoliant....sometimes the acid in the gentle cream exfoliant is a bit too much for dry skin making it worse. I'd try the daily microfoliant.....it's very gentle! plus as an added bonus, you can use it over lips if you're prone to chapping:)

HTH!!

I've always had a combination skin and went for a Dermalogica facial a couple of years ago. I was prescribed the dermal clay cleanser, daily micofoliant and the active moist cream. Now, I'm well aware of Dermalogica's reputation, and far be it from me to diss them in any way, but my skin turned from an oil slick to a dry, flaky, sore and sensitive mess. I suspect I was prescribed the wrong products but it was enough to put me off Dermalogica for life!
The range I stock has wonderfully hydrating and soothing products; pm me if you would like more details.
As for the dandruff my mama has it and I put her onto T Gel. Her hair has never looked better, and the dandruff is under control.

Also, look at your environment. Are you working in air con? Do you drink plenty of water? Has anything changed in your life to affect your skin? What meds are you taking? All these thing will affect your skin.

Elemis sos emergency cream sounds just right for you. Some people dont like the consistency but i love it find an elemis salon and see if you can get a sample as its quite expensive but a little does go a long way.

It's extremely hard to say without seeing your skin, but it sounds like are dehydrated (water dry) rather than oil dry. The products you switched to are for an oil dry skin, I wouldn't reccomend them if your are suffering with spots and shine.

How much water are you drinking daily? Also do you smoke, drink alcohol and coffee regularly? If so you need to increase the amount of water you would normally consume, as these can be factors in causing dehydration.

How old are you? There are so many reasons for skin to act like yours, and it is very difficult say why if I can't see it. If you get spots and you are over 20 it doesn't mean that your skin is oily. So your skin should not be treated as one. I would advise you to stick to something soothing and hydrating all over your face. If it is slightly sensitive try not to exfoliate to much, and stop using a tone for a while. Make sure you take enough vitamins, drink plenty of water, and take fish oil or any other fatty acids(it will help skin hydration). Get a spot treatment so you can target them individually. You can still stick to dermalogica but ask for different more hydrating products or you can try something else. There are so many great quality professional brands around, go around and ask for samples to see which one feels the best.
Hope your skin will soon improve.

oh wow, thank you, this is all great info.
the only fluids i do drink is water nothing else, i am actually a health freak regarding what goes in so i take plenty of vitamins.
As for the toner i did stop using it last week cos i forgot to take it on hols and my skin actually look different, better,.
This has all been excellent advice, gave me alot of questions to ask my therapist (hopefully she won't feel as though i am dismaying her expert advice, she does do lovely facials though)
Many thanks

Have you recently started taking any new medication perhaps or had a recent dental x-ray as both of these can impact your skin and make it dehydrated. Also are your spot breakouts due to stress, wrong time of the month as these will also have a bearing on your skin condition.

Also how do you apply your booster, to make your skin hydrating booster more effective apply it before your moisturiser. I would also agree that the daily microfoliant may be a little better for your skin as it is only a superficial exfoliation product. I have very dehydrated dry skin too and the daily resurfacer etc are too much for my skin and the daily microfoliant works better for me.

Try the overnight clearing gel for your breakouts

As someone has already said your skin is not dry if you are oily in places and have had acne, it is dehydrated probably from over use of oil stripping products and needs to be treated with products for dehydrated combination oily/normal skin. Dehydration is common at this time of year when we have cold weather outside and the heating on inside.
