I have just completed SVQ Level 2 in Beauty Therapy and was hoping to set up at home using my bedroom which has an ensuite so thought that would be suitable for washing hands etc.
I dont want to do mobile because I feel there are so many disadvantages and I dont think I would enjoy it.

I spoke to a business advisor and he said that he didnt think using a bedroom was suitable and I spoke about converting my garage which obviously takes time and money but he said I might have problems with the mortgage company and planning and insurance and neighbours so he has tried to put me off a home salon and thinks I should do mobile but I dont really want to so not sure what to do now.
I have thought about a summer house but that obviously costs money before I can get started.
I am going back to college to do Level 3 but would have liked to fit in some clients and start building up a client base for when I finish next year so dont want to have too many outlays just now, thats why I thought I would be fine in the bedroom.
Sorry if this is a bit long winded but I really dont know what to do now and I know a lot of you have home salons so would really appreciate your thoughts.

Thank you

Did he say why he thought a bedroom (I assume you meant no bed etc) wasn't suitable ?

Providing your mortgage provider has no objection and clients parking don't cause problems with neighbours I cannot see a problem. I use my smallest bedroom (upstairs) and all my clients love it. I would prefer a room downstairs but cannot spare the space.

there are a lot of bargains on summer houses at the min you should look in to it i have never looked back as i hated having strangers walking through my house

Im looking into doing it in one of my bedrooms aswell,so who do i get intouch with then morgage people, council, insurance who else please sorry to jump in threadskyblue but this is my fear aswell that they will say "no".Is there a specific order to ask like council first then morgage etc?
I would want more of an explanation why he says not a good idea, good luck let us know xx

Is it a bedroom that is used everyday by your self or a spare bedroom that could be used to set up a home salon?

If a spare room then i cant see a problem as loads of beauty therapists and nail techs have done this.

If it is to use a part of your bedroom that you sleep in then this is different, i have to say i wouldnt feel comfy, relaxed and at ease sitting at a table or laying on a couch while looking at your bed and possesions around the room.

Just my take on it chick:hug:

Thanks to everyone who has replied.
I see what you mean about a bedroom and I am coming round to the idea of a summer house. I am still worried about the hygiene side of it and really need to be near a sink with running water.
I could convert my spare room but I would have to leave client when I went to the bathroom to wash my hands and I dont want to do that and it would mean the client going right through the house to get to the spare room which having thought about it is not a great idea.

Has anyone who has a home salon had any problems with mortgage company or home insurance?
