I have recently started in a spa and was wondering whether it is customary to get paid an hourly rate just for the actual services you provide. I was always under the impression that if you get hourly rate than that would apply to all the time you spend at the salon, i.e. if you are cleaning, folding towels etc. Paid per service if you get commission. If commission then a split of 40/60, the one who provides the materials gets the 60% Is that right or am I mistaken?

Every salon is different, and this is an area that should have been discussed at interview.
There are many variables within the industry and no "average" or norm.
